On my day old Canon Rebel T1i, the nine point focus lights do not come on all at once. I have tried adjusting per the manuel but that didn't help. The other option in the manual, to buy an additional part, is not acceptable.

If you have a specific zoom lens on and it will take shots in MF manual focus but wont in AF auto focus you could have a broken ribbon connector in the lens. Try with another zoom lens if you get the same problem it could be the camera. If it works OK then the ribbon in the affected lens may need replacing.
You have to Manually Set/Override the ISO settings to a larger number like 1600 or higher this will let the camera take pictures at faster shutter speed to freeze the action, Try to use the camera in more manual modes, Tell the camera what do, old school photograpy.
Is this happening when you try to focus on something pretty close to the camera? If that's the problem, it's because the lens has a focus distance 0.25m/0.8ft meaning the subject has to be this far away for the lens to be able to focus. You could buy a new lens with smaller focus distance if this is a big problem to you.
Nothing, in full auto mode you can't adjust allmoust anything. If you want to "play" with adjusting some elements you simply need to use some other camera setting other than full auto more.
Full auto is simply "point and shoot" for people witch dont know allmoust anything about photography.
