No operating system on boot up - unable to fix MBR - refuse to believe hardware issue
Firstly, I made a clone using Acronis Home True Image 11 to an external USB hard drive (Maxtor 3200). After cloning completed (unattended) came back to machine with message "No operating system". In short, local drive visible in bios, but with no partitions. Have attempted care and repair version 4 but as drive not visible, cannot fix MBR. Likewise cannot recover system and/or files as not local drive not being discovered correctly. I am running the utility rescue and recovery from the newly cloned external USB drive. Have also downloaded Vista recovery image which uses Startup Repair ver 2 and run from this CD but get as shown below: Problem Sig. 01 Startup Repair V2 02 External Media 03 6.0.6000.16318.104.22.168.0 04 65537 05 unknown 06 CorruptPartitionTable 07 0 08 1 09 FixPartitionTable 10 1168 OS version 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 I have raised a request with Lenovo, but cannot find a telephone contact number. In addition, but not quite sure of impact, ny gathered system information states that I am running as a user which doesn't have administrator rights, but cannot fathom how I get the Rescue and Recovery to run as administrator.

That's rather a vague question. However there are quick a few packages out there to backup complete systems.
Firstly there is Acronis True Image. This software can create an image or file backup over multiple discs or partitions from a windows environment or direct booting from CD. It supports SSD hard-drives, partitions hard-drives and more. Click on the below link for more information. Backup software for data backup and disaster recovery in Windows and...
Another software package is Symantec System Recovery. This software does exactly some thing as the above mentioned package as well as check hard-drives for errors, network & system tools.

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
The hard disk is damaged.
Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).
Note Some third-party programs or disk corruption can damage an MBR.
An incompatible partition is marked as Active.
A partition that contains the MBR is no longer active.
Contact your hardware manufacturerYour best bet may be to contact the manufacturer of your computer or your hard disk. The manufacturer may have a utility that you can use to perform a more detailed scan for damaged areas of the disk and help verify the correct BIOS settings. However, be aware that the damage to your hard disk may be serious. Sometimes this means that your only solution is to replace your hard disk.
I used Acronis (Acronis true home 11) and (Disc Suite) to recover my computer's operating system, and expand its hard disc capacity. It took me 2-3weeks to get it back on line,(but I had an opratin sytem disc) Windows Vista Ultimate to reboot it with.Do you have your original start up disc ?
Uninstall Norton that you think might have caused the issue . The only backup program I would and personally use is Acronis True Image Home Edition. Version 11 can be found on Ebay.com for around $30.00
