Question about John Deere Garden

1 Answer

I have a JD L110. I should start by saying before I did anything to the JD it ran but, was cutting out because of junk in the fuel tank. I got tired of removing the carburetor bowl and cleaning it so it would run for ½ hr or so. I also replaced the fuel lines while it was apart and easy to access. I removed the fuel tank to clean it out then replaced it. Now the mower will not even crank. I've checked and cleaned all connections, grounds, battery terminals (battery is good). I have checked for continuity on all switches with a JD technical manual. The lights come on, the RIO switch latches when pressed but, the engine does not move. I do NOT hear the fuel shutoff click anymore when I shut the power off. I have checked the key switch for correct continuity for each position of the key even took of the positive cable from the starter to the relay and cleaned it. This all started once I replaced the fuel tank and put everything back together. All connections are plugged in unless Iâ??ve missed one underneath the frame that I canâ??t see. I might add that there is 12VDC going to the starter that I measured. I have also checked the brake, PTO and seat switches.

As far as I can tell there is only 1 fuse for the L110, I have checked this fuse. I have lights, there is 12 VDC going to the starter. Unless you know of another fuse, that's not the problem. I have a plastic fuel tank and in-line filter.

I never heard back from FixYa after the first reply, I fixed the problem last Friday myself. It was an open in one of the safety switch connectors.

My model lawn tractor cannot be jumped from a car.

Please release my money that's being held since I've fixed the problem my self - thanks

4cyl diesel Ford tractor. Ran great yesterday . Today it starts and cuts off. Any ideas?

Is the fuel flow strong at the injection pump ? If not you may have a partial blockage inside the tank, wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filters either. I had a similar problem with my 350 JD dozer
I checked the tank and found some debris covering the outlet hole,
debris removed problem fixed.
Also check all your fuel lines, if all the above is good, than start cracking each injector one at a time with the machine running
as long as it will run, you will notice a bad injector by the difference in sound , a good injector will cause rough idling l a bad one will not.

Need to do anything special after mower emptied of gas?

You probably have a dirty fuel jet. If there is a fuel cup on the bottom of your carb take it off and clean it as well as the fuel jet. when you empty the tank you stirred up the dirt in the tank bottom.

My car keeps cutting out after running out of fuel

You did not say what the year make and model are, so I will assume it is fuel injected.
When the tank is run empty, often times the pump is damaged.
The electric fuel pump uses liquid gas to keep it cool and lubed.
It could have been cooked, and it may have picked up some debris off the bottom of the tank.

Fuel pump shut off switch

A couple of things to start with. The first is that you have changed your plugs and the fuel filter which are to totally different "departments" you could say in the engine. The plugs are for "spark" and the other is for fuel. It takes two things to start a vehicle gas and spark. It seems by what you are saying or what you have written that you haven't exactly diagnosed the problem first and have started replacing things. I'm not saying anything bad about you or anything but you need to narrow down the problem and then correct it. Find out what you don't have in order for the vehicle to start (fuel or spark) Below is a picture of the port to check for fuel pressure. It's kind of like a valve on a tire. You can either get a fuel pressure tester to connect to it to see if you are or are not geting fuel. If you don't have access to a tester you can carefully "push" in the valve (like you reliesing air out of your tire). See if you are getting fuel up to the fuel rail. If you are not it could be the cut off switch, a fuel pump relay or a few other things. By the way below is another picture of the cut off switch. Where the blue arrow is pointing down is a button you simply push down. If it is "popped" as you push down the button you should hear or feel a click which meant it was popped and needed to be reset. There could be a electrical short causing it to pop so there may be other issues if this is the problem (fuel). If you don't have fuel at the fuel rail, while you are listening by the gas tank, have someone turn the key to just the "on" position (without trying to start it) and when they turn the key you should be able to hear the fuel pump inside the gas tank turn on for about 3 seconds and then shut off. If you don't hear anything it could be a fuel pump or relay as well as a couple of other things. If fuel doesn't seem to be the problem and you seem to be getting fuel, check to make sure you are getting spark to the spark plugs. If you are not then the next step is to find out why there is no spark which could be as simple as a fuse or a number of other things. I guess the point I am trying to get at is to find out what is missing as to why the vehicle is not starting (fuel or spark) then comes diagnosing the reason for the loss either spark or fuel. Once you figure out the loss you can either reply/comment here or email directly at csautomotivecars@att.net with what you have found out and then we can diagnose what's causing the loss before you start just replacing parts for no reason. I hope I was able to help in some way. By the way just in case the fuel cut off switch for the escort coupe is in the trunk on the right side behind a cover and if it's a sedan or wagon it behind the kick panel on the drivers side.

Hello, i have a 95 dodge neon that cuts off after starting it. I let it sit for a few hours, come back and it will not start at all. One of my family members bounced the rear end up ad down, and it...

I am metalpoet....level II chrysler tech.....It sounds like a fuel pump issue by the way you describe it but I know from working on them you will need a timing belt....This will cause it to run terrible like you have described after you get it started.....I really need more info....Has it been tuned up or anything like that lately......How many miles are on it ? Without knowing anything I would disconnect battery/ remove the in line fuel filter / then reconnect battery turn switch on and see if the fuel pump is pumping out fuel...(THE PRESSURE ISNT VERY HIGH COMING OUT OF THE TANK...BUT BE CAREFUL.....IT IS 2 MAN OPERATION ).......IF NO FUEL YOU NEED AN IN TANK PUMP KIT...IF YOU HAVE POWER GOING TO IT........IF fuel comes out let it run until clean then replace in line filter......Then check timing belt....The timing belt is not for beginners to
replace.....Please reply with more info.....I can give detailed instructions on replacing timing belt if needed.............Need to know history of vehicle........................Metalpoet

My JD L110 keeps vapor locking. I replaced the plug, battery, air and fuel filters. Could this be electrical?

Try this.
The next time it is running and begins to stall, loosen the fuel cap.
If that helps, clear any vent holes on the cap.
Good Luck.

95 sedan deville wont start and says fuel low with gas in tank

I'd start by tracing the fuel supply and return lines from the gas tank to the engine compartment. Make sure that they are free of kinks or other damage.

Next, check the fuse box and make sure there is power to the fuel pump. Trace the electrical connections leaving the fuel tank and make sure they weren't torn or otherwise damaged by the tire tread.

Hope this helps and good luck!
