Try wrapping a strip of fabric around the machine arm and trap the thread under the fabric. This is to calm the flapping and tugging of the thread. You may need to back off the tension to compensate for the added drag on the thread. Another tip is to put an elastic band on the spool pin to act as a brake on the spinning reel. Again compensate for any drag by backing off the tension.

My Elna 9000 is not reeling the thread on to the bobbin

if the machine load the bobbin inside the machine , sometimes those machine need adjustments for that problem

Thread is bunching up in bottom.

It sounds like you have no tension on the bottom bobbin reel. Did you check your tension on the bobbin reel. The tension must be right on both sides. When pulling on the cotton when the reel is in its bobbin case you need to feel a little resistance. Adjust the tiny srew on the bobbin case to tighten the reel to avoid it to turn in the casing.

Top thread unravelling

Turn your spool around. You've got the little thread catch on the spool on the side it unspools from. Make sure it's the other direction.

Zigzag stitch tension is too tight but tension is set to zero, any solutions?

This sounds like something is catching the top thread somewhere rather than the tension dial being the problem.

So start by check the threading up path from thread reel to needle, some thread reels have a little cut to hold the thread tail when storing but it could catch the thread during use too. If this is the case, turn reel up the other way or use a mushroom cap over it to assist the thread to flow off smoothly.

Check that thread is going through the take up lever, and not catching on a threading loop, or wrapped around something. It may be caught on something at the back of the machine that you can't see, so just visually check the whole threading path from start to finish, and hopefully this will identify the issue.

I have an old Singer, Model #6146 from the late 70's or early 80's, can't remember when my mom bought it, but I can't remember how to thread it and I don't know how to put the thread on the bobbin. Any...

Cotton reel on top, take the thread from the reel to the left and over the top guide, straight down throught the tension discs, back up to the take up lever making sure the lever is at the top, through the lever right to left, straight down through any guides and thread needle front to back.
To wind the bobbin, reel of cotton on top, bobbin on bobbin winder making sure it is pushed to the left, take the thread to the left and round the small wheel and back to the winder, wind the thread round a few times on the bobbin, push the windewr to the right, and loosen the stop motion in the balance wheel.

My Husqvarna Designer I has an upper thread tension problem... the thread gets "caught" right at the beginning point of the threading process and the machine comes to a dead stop. There's major bobbin...

My guess is that it is the thread spooling off the reel that is the problem. Some of those specialty quilting cottons come on reels with plastic ends that have rough spots particularly knicks where you are supposed to "park" the thread end when you are done sewing. Run your fingers around the rim at each end of the reel and choose the smoother one to be the one closest to the threading mechanism. If neither end is suitable, flip the spool holder upwards so it is standing at a right angle to the machine, make sure the large spool holder is on then put the thread on - you won't need the smaller spool holder on top. Let the thread feed off from the right-hand side i.e. "under" the thread spool, across to the tension disks etc. Also be sure that the thread is not jumping out of that first thread tension slot.

Riccar 9600, no manual, how do we thread it?

If I remember it is reel of thread on the reel pin, make sure the presser foot is up and takeup lever at the top, take the thread to the left and over the top cotton guide, straight down through the tension disc and down to the larger guide, round the right and take the thread back up the left hand side, through the takeup lever right to left and follow the guides all the way down to the needle, thread needle front to back.
