Tried as you suggested, but no luck. The light has changed to green, however the print head has not moved, and I still get the 6800 error, do you have any other ideas.

    thanks

I have followed steps 1-4 ok, however at step 5 the printhead doesn't move, any ideas ?

    thanks

Yep, followed instructions to the letter, have tried a few times. The printer doesn't make any noises at all.

  • Steven Schmi Jun 19, 2008

I get a blink count of 9, which suggests a "EEPROM Error - SERVICE" according to your link above. When I googled "Canon i850 EEPROM" there were instructions as you suggested in an earlier note, which I followed to initialise the EEPROM. No luck however, the print head still will not move. Will try a few other options tonight, and may even take it apart on the weekend to see if anything else I can do, otherwise I think it's had it.

thanks for the suggestions you have provided.

    Hi,
I have just encountered the same problem with the same printer.
Coincidence isn't it... the timing I mean. Within days of each other.
Maybe canon has a built-in timeout firmware.

Anyways. I read the instructions recommended at this sight. I too couldn't get the print head to move. Leading to the ink cleaning felt area, I noticed it was way above liquidy.

Frankly my kids had been complaining a lot over the past several months that the colors weren't correct. On that I had stopped using my own refilling of cartridges, which seemed to hold the colors correctly longer. In the end I presumed that the printer head was either going or needed a thorough cleaning. On occasion, the black would block-up. I kept using the maintenance feature to clean all colors or black only. I believe this was a tell'tale sign that there was something deeper to the root cause.

Getting back... I just removed today the print head/cartridges and tried to start up the printer after throughly cleaning the liquidy area.... behold everything moved properly. Replacing the head brought back the same error code and the head didn't move. remove again.. everything goes... etc.

I then thought I may have damaged the connector pins (head). Several experiments led me to accept that all was ok there.
That leads me to believe that in fact that resetting the eprom may indeed be the ultimate corrective action, now that the area is clean. I'm just about to check out if any firmware can be downloaded directly into the computer to make this fix... or perhaps a factory reset.

    Anyone have anymore suggestions?Paul

This error indicated that the internal printer counter for the waste ink sponge has reached its threshold. You should be able to reset this counter once without cleaning the sponge.

Do this:

1. Start with printer OFF
2. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
3. Release RESUME
4. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
5. let green light blink until printhead has finished moving.
6. Select functions below with RESUME, execute with POWER

now try press resume button 4 times..after that press the power button
This should clear your error and let you resume printing. If you start getting ink smudges on the paper you will have to disassemble the printer and clean the waste toner sponge.

Try pressing the resume button 3 times instead of 4 at the end. I'm getting conflicting answers on the net as to which is correct.

Are you keeping your finger on the power button from step 2 all the way to step 4?

Does the printer make any noises when the printhead is supposed to be moving?

Actually from doing a little more research I found this: http://www.local.nu/HelpDesk/index.php?t...

It indicates that the 6800 error is an EEPROM error, there are EEPROM ressetter tools available online. Just google "Canon i850 EEPROM" and download from one of the first links. I can't check out these pages as they are blocked here at work. Hopefully resetting your EEPROM with one of these programs will get you back in business. Otherwise, I'm afraid, there isn't much that can be done to save your printer.

This is how I just fixed a Canon MP800 all in one with the flashing green & orange lights (a series of 9) & error code 6800. Left it UNplugged from the electrical outlet over night(You have to give it HOURS UNplugged or this will not work). Plugged it in the next day & turned it on. First window now showed a different error iu30 or some such, & showed a graphic of the ink cartridges with problems recognizing them. Held down the RESET button until the graphic showed the first cartridge as ok, (the picture will change), let go and held down the RESET button again for the next cartridge & so on until all 5 were ok. The screen then changed to a menu asking me what language I would like. Used the arrow keys around the OK button to select English. Then pressed OK for that language. The screen then changed again & said it would have to do a printhead alignment & to put paper in the printer. I put paper in & pressed the OK button again. It took about 5 minutes for the print head alignment. The paper with the alingment marks came out printed correctly. The next screen showed a normal screen which usually defaults to the Copy properties. Turned the printer off & on again a few times & everything was fine. Have no idea how long this will last or what caused the problem, but it is fixed for now. Related Problems & Solutions Filter Problems by Issues:

System error code 6800 means "The function attempted to use a name that is reserved for use by another transaction." This error code may also display as "ERROR_TRANSACTIONAL_CONFLICT" or as the value 0x1A90.

Had a neighbors Canon MP800 all in one that got the 6800 error code plus text had all turned to Japanese. Unplugged it overnight, plugged it back in in the morning & it started up with a different error & showed problems recognizing the ink cartridges. Pressed the Reset Button & the picture showed the first cartridge as ok, pressed & held Reset again, & the picture showed the second cartridge as ok. Did this until all 5 were shown as ok, then the screen changed & showed a menu asking what language I wanted. Picked English. The screen then said to insert sheet of paper for printhead alignment. Put paper in & hit the OK button. Took about 5 minutes for that, then the printer was back to normal. Do not know yet how long this will last, but it fixed it for now.

The black color doesn't print.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

hi welcome to fixya!
I believe there is no print head failure happening. I experience that one time, it only needs a new ink cartridge. Be sure to replace the right color!

Hello.

First make sure you removed any protective tape or caps on the
ink cartridge.
If there is a contact surface on the cartridge make sure
there is no dirt or fingerprints on the contact surfaces.
