If the ink error doesn't clear after you close the lid, switch the printer power off for few seconds. If that doesn't work, try removing and fitting the cartridge again.
Are you sure the error is for the colour cartridge - not the black this time??
If you can't get it to reset, don't panic. It will still print as normal. If it stops and asks for a new cartridge, holding the Stop/Reset button for 10 seconds will make it work again.

hope this helps

Printer wont reconise ink cartrige

Make sure you've removed the protective tape from the cartridges that you inserted into the printer and that the cartridges were installed properly. Are you getting an error message or is the printer just not printing? If you get an error such as Error U041 or U043, the printer may just be low on ink or have a bad ink cartridge.

I put in a new ink cartrige and it still says I am out of ink--flashing PO8 and it also says error 5200

I apologize for thinking in a simple manner, but doulbe check two things:

make sure the protective strip has been removed from the ink jets of the new cartridge. Also, make sure that the ink cartridges are properly seated. Take them out and put them back in again.

Many problems similar to what you are described have been solved with simple troubleshooting steps.

did you use a replace or an original cartridge?
if it was a replace the error is normal, but do not dispare just press resume/cancel for at least 10 seconds, after this the ink counter will be canceled and you will not get the "out of ink" screen any more.

Ink cartrige cannot be recognised

make sure you've taken the protective tape off the cartrige. Usually its orange and noticeable.

Sometimes generic cartriges have a small chip and a registration that allows the printer to talk between the cartrige from what I under stand maybe ink levels and to protect profits on not allowing generic companies to make a more economical product competitively

the printer can sometimes be power cycled to allow it to accept the generic cartrige.
there are normally settings on a printer to see if you can change the internal settings can be altered to allow non Original Electronic Manufacturors products in a Canon Printer.

make sure that the type of printer you have is compatible with the printer. the computer may require a black cartridge or a color cartrige in a very specific location. they might not be allowed to be switched.
make sure the cartrige can slide in and out of it's slot comfortably.

FOR office printers. there are also protective tabs holding the ink in the cartrige. this side tab on the cartrige is there for shipping. these are normally on large 30 pound printers. top front loading Office printers. the tab needs to be turned hard and swift either clockwise or counter clockwise if you can't cleaning pull it out. Also remember your boss paid a lot for that cartrige dont break something your not comfortable breaking. be warned in advance this dry ink will spill and is hard to clean and harder to clean from clothing.

as per a fast solution a smaller printer and certainly a cartrige can actually be brought into a computer and electronics store whilst looking to buy a new print cartrige. Make sure if you do bring a piece of your own electronics into a store you check in with security. let them know its yours; wave it in front of a camera if youd like.
the seller normally should be able to recognize if their product will fit in your device it will save both of you time and inconvience.
cartriges cost about the same as a new printer with new ink.
dont be afriad to buy an extra ink at the time of purchase and risk letting it dry but having the back up that you know works-
you'll have a package for the next time you need a new cartidge. gives you more research material.
accept moores law
feel good about flossing on a new printer.
print some pictures and frame them-
pictures are some of the most important thing in our lives! Smile!

Use the following procedure to replace empty ink cartridges or when an ink cartridge error appears.
  1. After confirming that the printer is powered on, open the scanning unit (printer cover). The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.

Note: After confirming that the scanning unit support is fixed into position, release your hands.

    *MP470 shown

  2. Press down on the semi-circular tab (circled area in <1>, above) to release the cartridge and then remove it.

Note: Handle the ink cartridges carefully to avoid staining clothes and surrounding work area.

*Optional cartridges PG-40 and CL-41 shown in examples

  3. Remove and replace each cartridge individually. Or, remove the second cartridge after the first has been removed.

  4. Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.

Note: - Do not attempt to reattach the protective tape once you have removed it.
    - Do not touch the gold electrical contacts or the print head nozzles after removing the protective tape.

  5. Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.- Black: the left slot- Color: the right slot*

*One black cartridge and one color cartridge must be installed in the machine in order for the printer to operate. It does not matter if the capacities (Standard or High) do not match.

  6. Push up on the front of the cartridge until it locks into place. (A click sound will be heard when the cartridge is locked in place.)

  7. Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.

<1> The ink cartridge is not installed properly.

<2> The ink cartridge is installed properly.

  8. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

  9. Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.

Many 'refilled' cartridges aren't refilled. Try a new c artridge and see what happens. If it still doesn't work, you need a new print head.

Print head error

Did you try cleaning the contacts where the print head fits? You might try a qtip moistened with rubbing alcohol or electronic contact cleaner. Sometimes ink will find it's way onto the contact area. Also, make sure you removed the contact protect tape from the new cartrige assembly. Sounds obvious, but I've forgotten this a time or two.
