If the band is vertical in nature and it goes from top to bottom then you might just have a bad address board. This requires a technician to look at it and replace it.

I bought an LCD Samsung 3 years ago and about a year ago a thick black line appeared in the middle of the screen. Can this be fixed at home?

check if the lines appear on different inputs or source like hdmi,av,pc, if it happens on a different source then theres a problem with the lcd screen it needs to be fix.

Sounds like your LCD Control board went bad. Very small chance it is your main board since you said you cant bring up a menu.

Tv is about 4 years old. Suddenly developed two

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

Mines a LG RZ42PX11 it intermittently gets a black vertical line down the middle of the screen.

Hi I have a LG RZ42px11 there are 6 vertical thick black lines running down the middle off the screen, when cold the TV seems OK but if it has been on for around 10mins or on standby the lines stay on screen.

Thanks.

Vertical black band down middle of tv screen

If you are able to see a complete picture though darl in the middle where the band is I would suspect a back light problem or an image processor problem, if the band is totally dark(dead pixels) you can not see a picture in the same area then you have a defective screenand has to be reolaced.
