Can my problem be solved without a disk? Lighting caused me to get a new hard drive.

Its not that simple. As far as I know the windows software is linked to the computer the disk comes from so it won't boot up if put in a different PC. There are other ways of doing this but not for the non-techie. Do you want windows 10 or would you be happy with windows 7 on the 2GTb disk ?

The problem is being caused by the Logical Disk Manager
Administrative service and possibly the logical Disk Manager service
not being started or the services might be disabled. to solve the
problem, click on the "Start" menu, click the "Run" command, and then type
in the box: services.msc , scroll down until you see both the above services.
right click on each of the services about and select properties, on the
general tab, change the startup type to "automatic" and click the start
button under the service status. do this for both of the services, and
that should will fix your problem."

For Windows 2000 and XP:
Right click on My Computer.
Choose Manage (This will open the Computer Management window).
Go to the Storage category and select Disk Management
Right click the new drive (usually listed as Hard Disk 1) and "initialize"
You now have the option to partition and format the drive.
The default settings of Primary Partition and NTFS- Quick Format are recommended for most users.

External hard drive can not be recognized, are more common on computer

1, Setting the CMOS parameters

external hard drives purchased are USB 2.0, which requires the cable connected computers and
external hard disk must support USB 2.0 standard. Because high-speed mobile device plug in a
low-speed hub, the device may not be properly installed, and some people use external hard disk
while using USB flash drives, For convenience, they directly used USB 1.1 standard cable that
supplied by USB flash drives, as a result, the USB 2.0 standard hard drive not be recognized
correctly. Just replace it by the USB 2.0 standard cable can solve this problem.
4, Windows version is too low
Pre-Windows 98 operating system does not support USB peripherals, so in any case to install the
driver, set the CMOS parameters are unable to make normal use of external hard disk. In this
case, one solution is to upgrade the operating system up to Windows 98, another way is to
Microsoft's official site, download the appropriate patch to make it can identify mobile hard

Hi I had the same problem and solved it like this assuming that you are running windows xp

With your external casing powered-up (it does not get power through USB does it?) and your WinXP
PC running, plug in the USB.
You should hear 'chime', what happens then?
If harddisk is recognised here, but does NOT have a drive-letter and cannot be seen in Windows
Explorer, the answer is in Windows Disk Management
...
Go Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management. ( on left column)
Maximize this page. Physical Drives appear at the bottom; Logical Drives at the top.
Hopefully your drive will appear at the bottom (physically), you must then 'import' it into the
Windows installation
; Windows will put its 'signature' on the drive and assign it a logical drive letter :^)
you can try to format it here if it is new and has no info on it , check back to My computer and see if present.

The slow start can be a caused by the processor speed, ram, graphics, bios, many things can cause it to load up slowly if your friend thinks its the hard drive without physically hearing the sounds it makes then its probably is, i would recommend you buy a new hard drive for your laptop and installing your operating system depending on how big you want the hard drive to be can be a bit expensive getting a hard drive with at-least 2-4 meg cache will greatly speed it up too.

1> usb cable problem
2> usb port problem
3> the problem on a computer virus or hard disk
4> computer problem
5> hard disk problem

There is no way you can avoid this because if the hard drive fails you will lose your data.
Do you want to risk losing your data?
The problem could be some bad blocks on the hard disk and Scan Disk may fix this problem BUT there is a risk this process may wipe out some data files or may require re-formating the hard drive.
The hard drive may be corrected by re-formatting the hard drive, but this process will wipe your data off this hard disk.

That means that you have a disk error caused by a bad cluster which in turn may cause you to have bad disk partition.
I would try to use a Disk repair software such as Norton Disk Doctor or if you have nothing too vital on it, I would consider reformatting your external drive (after making a backup if at all possible).

formatting a drive means resetting it to manufacturer settings
And deleting everything in there, this solves most of hard
Disk problems, mp3s ipods ect..

if its powering on without being connected to anything do the following.connect it via usb cable to your pc, or if it’s a hard drive its already connected. click on start, right click on my computer and go to manage in the table select, "storage" then "disk management"in that table find the drive that relates to your mp3 player or hard drive if its not there "buy a new mp3/ hard drive" this is faulty" if its therethen right click on it and select "new partition"you just next next everything and then format it and aftera while it shows "healthy2unplug it, plug it back on and that's it your drive is fully working now move what ever you want to it just like before.

Your hard drive has been corrupted. There is an easy fix that will not void any waranties (If you have them). Just buy a new hard drive (Mine is a 500 GB Samsung for $125). Then lookup instructions on how to replace it on the Sony website. It is a very simple process.
