My hp computer dc5750 lights and fan comes on but i have no output on the monitor how can i diagnose the problem

It could be the monitor or the graphic/video card.Try taking a cable from the computer to your dvi/hdmi input on TV or another monitor that would tell if the graphic/video card is still working.if you can't then try to connect a laptop to the input of the monitor.monitor usually give up the ghost due to failed capacitors/ dry joints.video cards will if they get overclocked.just some pointers that may help you.

The Importance Of Cleaning Your Computers or Laptop

One of the most important jobs that you will do is cleaning out the dust in your computer. A lot of us just take it for granted, put it off until something happens to our machines. Dust is a killer of CPU's and devices as well as motherboards. I mention to all of my clients and friends to dust there machines regularly. Keep animals away from them because of the animal hair, if you machine is on the floor get it off the floor. Raise it up a few inches off the floor to keep animals from urinating on them or spraying them. The CPU will get really hot if cooling fans are not working properly change them out if making grinding noise. Dust the blocks completely under the CPU fan and fix with Heat Sync Paste every 6 months or so.
This will keep your computer safe from fires shorts and burnt boards or devices. Just a simple vacuum will work that blows air or cans of air work as well also. I use a vacuum that blows air. Place outside and do this blow your computer out really good. Take a light brush or a soft brush to scrub out the parts being gentle as to not hit parts and break them with the brush. Takes about 5 minutes or less of your time. Compared to a new computer or the expense for parts, well think about it.
You may think by blowing out the laptop you have got it all. Not true laptops take a bit more time and should really be broken down to get to the copper tubing vents these are always getting clogged up. Every wonder why your machine shuts down a lot that my be the reason. Thermo shut keeps your laptop from overheating before the melt down. This can damage on board devices as well as the video card chips. Weakens the solder points so that they will eventually crack and short. Ever wonder why video gets choppy when machine is getting to hot.
Heat like anything else is the number one killer of any machine. So if we tend to take care of that we will never have any breakdowns. Other than basic parts wearing out. That is about all we will deal with if you keep your computer dusted and clean of debris. Just a little advice. John A. Crowder

Hi,

You can try "Ctrl+Alt+Esc";
Additionally, to restore Acer BIOS - press and hold the F10 key while powering on;
Others you can try are: F1, F2, Esc, Del & F10
On some really old machines:

Hope that this be of some help. Pls post back how things worked out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
