Hi, I have D-link AirPlus Xtreme G Wireless Router. The problem is that when i connect my laptop to the wireless connection it says it's connected but then i cant even open a page. I'm with...

The problem could be that the static IP address is not in the range as the IP address as the router.
You should let the wireless router issue an IP address to your computer.
Change the TCP/IP settings in your laptop's wireless card to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
Then reboot your laptop.

Linksys WRT54GS shows that it connects, but doesn't really

How could I possibly be smarter than the Linksys tech?

Do your computers have fixed IP addresses or obtain DHCP from the main router? You need to know this because you also need to let one or the other serve DHCP. If it were my system, I'd let the main router serve and the access points just exist.

For that to happen, you need to pick a fixed IP address outside of the IP addresses that can be assigned by your equipment, or pick one that is unused by your network devices.

Unplug the WAN cord from the Linksys and set your computer to 192.168.0.5 or 1.5, depending on what the Linksys does by default. Log into the Linksys and make it use a fixed IP address on the WAN side to whatever you need. Now, as I said above, I'd trun OFF LAN DHCP so it gets DHCP from your network router.

Now reset your laptop to use DHCP, power down the Linksys and plug it into the netrwork and power it up. From any computer on your network, you should be able to go to the router's fixed IP address and be looking at the login screen. Log in, change your password, and you should be up and running :-)

Note that there are a TON of variations on this theme, so don't despair if it fails to work. The key is knowing what your network requires.

My xbox 360 says i need an IP adress

The XBOX is configured for connecting to a router or server that will assign it an IP address. Connect it to your router instead of your laptop.

shound like there might of been a ip conflict, something else on the network wanted the same ip as a device already on the network. it can be fixed the same way as you done it last time. its hard to say if it will happen again? is you network secured or an open network. if your network is open i could very well happen again

Having Problem Acquiring IP Address

when using the range extender you have to make sure you set the SSID, channel & wireless key in the range extender the exact same as the router also it has to be in the same IP range so if the router IP address is 192.168.0.1 the range extender IP address has to change from 192.168.1.240 to 19.168.0.240. Hope that helps.

Laptop connects, but main computer doesn't....

if you have the router set to enable dhcp which gives your network cards an ip address automatically, then check that the network card of the main pc is set to obtain ip addresss automatically, this is in network connections, right click on network connection icon, properties and on the TCP/IP line click properties and check that 'obtain ip address automatically is ticked, apply and ok. Igf you have tried to repair the connection using wizard, then your settings will have been changed, thats possibly the problem. Also go into the routers settings and see if the main pc is listed under dhcp clients and that an ip address is given.
