Question about General Electric GE 24-Hour Power Strip Timer #57698

Open Question

We have grow lights and a pedestal fan plugged into the timer. Lights and fan are set to come on at different times. When the fan comes on, so do the lights. But, when the lights come on, the fan does not. Any ideas what is going on here? Amps and wattage are not a problem. It's a GE Power Savings Strip Timer 15077 purchased from The Home Depot. We returned the first one and are on the second one and still have the same problem.

SOURCE: how do I set the ge timer model #15119. husband

I tried to pull the whole dial and doing that I discovered that the border of the dial is composed by pins that you can pull it up each independently, with your nail or with any pointing device. The rest is easy: get sure the switch is set at "timer on", turn the dial to the current time using the black triangle mark and pull the pin up in the time you want your device to disconnect.

SOURCE: I have the GE Plug in Mechanical Timer Model

We had the same problem when we first tried to set our timer. Although we have a newer model, this might work for your timer as well. The pin for each 1/2 hour interval that you want the device to be "on" must be pushed toward the perimeter of the dial, not the center of the dial. For each 1/2 hour interval that you want the device off, the pins should be pushed toward the center of the timer. Don't forget to move the arrow on the dial to the current time just before plugging in the timer. Be sure the switch on the side of the timer is moved to "timer on", the override is "outlet on" for when you want your device to come on during the time that the timer is set to have your device turned off.

Need a good vacation timer. Any suggestions?

Copy following link to see analog vacation timers that turn lights on at random times.
Set current time slightly different so lights inside house can turn on-off at slightly different schedules.
Rotate dial to set current time, plug timer into outlet, make sure bulb is good, turn light ON, and plug light into timer.

Multi-function digital timers, such as Woods 59377, and lifetime-warranty Intermatic DT620 also have vacation feature, and timers have 2 outlets, but programming is more complicated than using analog timer.

Timer is not identified. Problem is not clear.
Add a comment with clear description of product, and say what you have done to set timer.
What do you plug-in to make lights work?

http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#TE05W

You want to control each light with different programming?
Westek TE05 timer is single-channel timer, so different lights cannot be controlled by different programs.

You need a two-channel timer so each light can come on at different times.

Zilla timers are two-channel timers: yellow outlets for daytime, and blue outlets for nighttime.

Segments located around dial control on-off times.
Pull segments UP for OFF times.
Leave segments DOWN for ON times

Set manual override switch to arrow-down position

Don't know what is it used for,and how it operates?I don't have any instructions for it.

You posted under T101 timer.
Most box timers have model number and instructions pasted on inside of door.
Instructions can seems a foreign language sometimes.

If your timer is different than T101, then add a comment with timer number.
I have extensive files on timers.

Box timers are generally used for heavy amperage loads like outdoor lights, swimming pool pumps, water heaters, parking lot lights and lighted outdoor signs.
They are surface mounted near breaker box, or in attic or basement, or garage.
Box timers are used in schools to ring bells, and inside factories to run processes and fans.
Some are complicated electronic devices used to control machines with one second precision.
Mechanical box timers are noisy when turning on-off, so are generally not installed in living area of house.

T101 timer is least complicated of any timer.
It is used for ordinary household 120V circuit.
Timer has 120Volt clock motor, and controls 120Volt circuit.
For example 120Volt water heater, or 120V grow lights, or aquarium, or any application up to 2 horsepower, for example timer can be located inside garage to control outdoor lights.
T101R is raintight outdoor box, with rubber gasket on door that seals tight when closed.
Raintight boxes are installed outdoors to operate 120Volt spas and pool pumps.
When box timer is rated for indoor, there is no rubber gasket on door, and that box is called NEMA 1 enclosure.
My local Lowes sells T101 T103 T104 > and each is for slightly different purpose and each wires differently.
Link below shows wiring and manuals for T100 series timers.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101

Here's how T100 series timer works:
Lift and rotate yellow dial until current time lines up with silver pointer.
Clock motor rotates dial as time passes.
Clock motors are accurate for years, but current time has to be reset after power outage.
ON-OFF trippers are placed on outer edge of dial.
Trippers push a lever, and lever turns circuit on-and-off.
ON tripper pushes lever one direction.
OFF tripper pushes lever opposite direction.
Each time lever is pushed, manual-override lever clicks back and forth with audible sound.

check and make sure you have the timer right am/pm.also the mechanism that rotates the timer might also be bad or going bad.if the am/pm timing is set right i would try another one from your local home center and if it works its likely the timing mechanism.

How do i set a bog standard timer to control lights

Ok these work in 2 ways and get get a bit illogical.Say if you want to set the timer to come on from 6am and run till 11am.
You either push all the teeth inwards to the centre for that time, or you make sure they are out.
The usual is to push all the teeth inwards from 6-11am to put the light on.
