What kind of vertical line.. This could also be a bad fuser. Open the fuser door. Carefully lift the to flap on the fuser. Check the Orange tube for gouges or missing rubber.

Try a new Cyan toner cartridge. If nogo, will need a new transfer roller or transfer belt (I used to work on these printers but forgot if they use a belt or not... I will check on the DCSE site and post back)

It sounds like you've got contamination on the drum cartridge or on one of the toner cartridges.
I'm actually going to be installing black toner in my 3100cn in about 8 hours, so I'll inspect and clean each of the carts, and write up the process for you tonight.
