Question about Singer Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a singer touch tronic 2001sewing machine. I put the material to be sewed down, put down the foot and when I tried to sew, after a few stiches, it pulled the materal down and locked up. I pulled back the slide plate and noticed thread across the bobbin from the front of the machine to the back. I cut the thread and cleaned out the remaining thread and tried again. It did it again. What is wrong with my machine? I have cleaned all the thread and lint out of the bobbin case, the bobbin does go into the sewing position.

I took the machine to be repaired. The bobbin basket assembly had to be replaced and it sews perfectly after this replacement.

What type of material are your trying to sew? If it is stretchy, or thin put some gift wrap tissue paper under it to stabilize it. Also, adjust your tension to about 2 or 3. Now check your needle, put a fresh one in, maybe a 9 or 11. Do not use old thread, either because it breaks easy. Try this, I hope that it works for you. You can buy stabilizer, pellon but tissue paper is what we used years ago, sometimes even computer paper. Good luck.

The material and the needle are not the problem. After taking apart the bobbin case and cleaning all the lint and thread out the machine will not sew a single stitch, it immediately starts to knot and bunch the thread. I am not even able to sew 2 stitches without it knotting up.

Wow, do you think that something is wrong in the bobbin area, like a piece of the hook or shuttle is broken? I saw a problem like that once, a little piece was broken off and it gave the same kind of grief that you are discribing. Try www.tandtrepair.com and you can see some pretty good diagrams of the bobbin area. If, that don't tell you anything, do you have a reliable repair shop? Because I have a feeling that it needs professionals to check it out unless you can go to a parts site, like the one above. Good luck, I hope that you do not have to spend a lot of money to get it fixed.

Singer touch tronic 2000 feed dog will not advance fabric

Confirm the feed dogs are raised. Make sure the feed dog teeth, area under the needle plate and the bobbin area are clean of any debris, thread, or buildup. Some machines also have a presser foot pressure adjustment that increases the pressure the presser foot applies to the feed dogs. The feed dogs could be worn (never run the sewing machine without fabric between the presser foot & feed dogs).

Or, the machine has not had a thorough cleaning and oiling recently and the feed dogs are sticking from old oil.

"I have a Singer Touch Tronic 2010. Though not a 2001, this machine was purchased for me by DH for Christmas in 1983. It is now 28 years old and sews like it did when new. I have had this machine serviced three times in all those years and not because anything needed repair, just to have it properly cleaned/oiled. It probably has several million miles on it. Back then I made a new outfit for work every week. I knew it should have been serviced more than that as I used it constantly. At one time, it was my only machine for eight years and since I sewed constantly, I couldn't bear to be without it for any length of time. Now that I am older and wiser (LOL) and have five sewing/embroidery machines including this one, I'm more attentive to the machines getting serviced on a regular basis. This machine aside from having sentimental value since DH purchased it, is still my favorite for regular sewing. It makes a great single chain stitch by placing an attachment in the bobbin that my newer and much more expensive machines don't/can't do. It is now at our week-end home and I smile every time I sew on it.

I agree with the advice to go ahead and use it and see how it performs, but not to put too much money into any repairs if it should need them.

How to set singer machine for strechy fabric

Hello, Most often if the machine sews fine on a regular material, cotton, denim, ect.....then the material...in this case "stretchy" is moving up and down with the needle...this is called "flagging" the material moves ever so slightly and this cause the hoop that the hook would pick up to be either not the right size or just a fraction out of line with the travel of the hook. On most industrial machines you can increase the presser foot pressure and cure it. From time to time the size of the hole in the middle of the presser foot can allow movement... so you might try applying a sturdy tape or material to the under side of the foot in order to reduce the hole side.

Hope this helps!!

Ishow me how to rewind the bobbin on a touch tronic 2001 singer sewing machine

Presser foot up, takeup lever at the top, thread the machine normally all the way and through the needle, open the needle plate, press the little lever to the right, wind the thread from the needle round the presser foot screw, press on the foot control slowly and wind the bobbin, when you have enough thread on the bobbin close the slide plate the winder will drop down, pull the threads to the back of the machine and start sewing

Hi. I purchased a Singer Touch tronic 2010 at a thrift store 2 weeks ago. It sewed beautifully until today. While putting my fabric under the pressed foot, a number if stitch selector lights on the front...

Sorry you are having a problem All machines work fine until they break. These early computer machines often had hand soldered components that are outdated. Sadly those are not supported by the manufacturer any more and most sewing technicians would advise you replace it with the problems you described.

When attempting to sew rather thin material the main presser foot has not enough downward pressure to keep the material from sliding around. This is on a Singer 111W. Works fine on leather etc. I thought...

This machine was not designed to sew THIN material. It is an upholstery machine and it will never sew thin fabric very well. You can try a smaller needle(size 16 or less) and shorter stitches. There is also an adjustment to raise and lower the walking foot located on the backside of the machine. It can be recognized by the wing nut holding it in place and that it slides up and down when it is loose.
