Question about Golden Technologies Health & Beauty

1 Answer

My wife uses a Golden Alero with a PG Drives VR2 (4-key, 60AMP system). The Alero's drives are in a 24V system with an external charger. Of late, it's been eating batteries every two months, though she charges it not only overnight but during the day at the office. We've been through three sets from two different vendors, both of whom have been previously dependable. Motors are strong. Continuity through the cables, and wiring order, test well. Controller works. For the first three years, we averaged between 6-7 months per set of batteries (she's a very heavy user). Thoughts?

We've used three different chargers, including a PowerPro 20 marine charger. Same results.

The Alero uses 35AMP batteries (A pair). We had been using Universal for several years with good luck. Then, they started failing after seven to nine weeks. We got replacements under warranty but the same thing happened so we switched to batteries marked SLA in large print (probably Universal OEM). The latter were fine for eight weeks. Then it looked like the same problem. However, when the PG Drive VR2 indicates low battery with flashing LED's, the motors still pull with authority, as if the batteries still have good charge. Previously, when batteries began to fail, the system would shut down when the LED's started flashing. This sounds like a PG Drive VR2 problem.

I will check voltages as you descried above.

Tested as described. Good voltage (25V) at rest, and under full power against a wall for 4 seconds (25V).

Arthur What batteries are you installing? Are they Universal or a brand name like Interstate or MK? Lets try this, After a full charge overnite and without the charger plugged in get a digital voltmeter set it 200 volts dc and plug it into the charger port's two outter holes locted under the front of the joystick. You should be reading 25-27 volts+. Now Lets try a load test on the batteries----With the voltmeter still plugged in, place the chair against a sturdy wall and engage the joystick forward placing the motors in a strain but not for more than 4 seconds and read the voltage as you do this. If you get more than a 2 volt drop in voltage you have a weak or bad battery. Now also have your vendor check the brushes on your motors. Worn brushes can cause excessive voltage draw and run the batteries down. Also have them check the electric brakes and make sure they aren't dragging on the motor case causing excess voltage draw. Even though the brakes are engaging and you aren't getting an error sometimes, especially after moisture is high the brake pads can stick some on the motor. Since most of your batteries have been under warranty (I hope) Make sure you are getting a 55 amp battery for the chair and always charge before use. Thats all my thoughts Hope this Helps you

Lock key keeps blinkinglights blink 9 times

Depending on the controller type being used you either have a controller solenoid brake fault (sticker on bottom of joystick will say "PG Drives" and have 9-bars flashing) or a communication error between the controller and joystick (Dynamic Controller flashing wrench).
Repair for PG Drive is to replace joystick/controller.
Repair for Dynamic is to clean, remove and reseat or replace joystick cable.

Siig sc-sat212-s4, stops boot when connected

While most computers are capable of starting up properly with external drives connected, from time to time the external drive can cause confusion during the startup process. The computer may attempt to boot from the external hard drive rather than the primary internal drive. This causes the computer to fail during startup because the external hard drive does not have the operating system installed on it.

Disconnect the external hard drive from the computer. In order to minimize the risk of damage to or loss of files on the external drive, shut down the computer if possible, or hold down the power button on the computer until the computer turns off and then disconnect the external hard drive. Restart the computer with the drive disconnected. If the computer still does not start up, it is possible that the computer is attempting to boot from the external drive. Reconnect the external drive and restart the computer. Watch the screen as the computer boots up. A prompt will appear indicating which key to press to enter "Setup" or the "BIOS." Press this key when the prompt appears. On many computers the key is either Delete ,F2 or F10. Use the keyboard of the computer to navigate the "Setup menu" that appears. (Advanced Bios Features.) The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:

IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?

IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ? or using the arrow keys you can load failsafe or optimized defaults this will set the boot order. Highlight the option for "Boot Disk" or "Startup disk" and select the "C:/" or the primary internal hard drive. Press the associated key, labeled so on the bottom of the screen, to save the changes and restart the computer. This will allow the computer to boot from the appropriate drive. Hope it helps.

the batteries are not charged and need to be replaced. The reason you have lights is because the charger is supplying power to the chair and the chair will not move when the charger is plugged in because of the inhibit function. Replace the batteries and make sure you charge before use Hope this helps

MY DVD/CD DRIVE DOES NOT WORK IT WILL NOT READ THE DISC cannot play dvd,cds or load or make dvds or cds

Open the drawer.
Insert a disk, rotating the disk so that the writing on the face of the disk is "level".
(Imagine a clock-face on the disk; rotate the disk to make the writing go from "9" to "3",
not "10" to "4", nor "12" to "6".)
Close the drawer.
Wait a minute (to see if the disk should automatically start spinning).
Hold down the "Windows-flag" key on your keyboard, and touch (once) the 'E' key.
Wait a few seconds.
Open the drawer.
Is the disk still at the "9-to-3" position?
If so, then the CD-drive has *NOT* read the disk at all, and it needs to be replaced.

Try the above with the same disk in another computer, to see how it _should_ work.

Then, shutdown your computer.
Turn it on.
Look for the message: "Press DEL to enter setup".
Quickly, press the DEL key.
When you see the "setup" menu, press ENTER.
You should see at least 4 similar lines:
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO

If you see 'NONE' anywhere, press the TAB key (or the DOWN-arrow key) until that 'NONE' is highlighted, and press PG-UP/PG-DOWN until it changes to AUTO.
Repeat for each 'NONE'.
Press ESC once to return to the "main-menu".

Press RIGHT-arrow and DOWN-arrow to highlight the "Detect Drives".
Press ENTER.
It should auto-detect your CD-drive, within 1 minute.
When it's finished detecting, press ESC.

Use the "arrow" keys to select 'SAVE CHANGES'.
Select it, and save the changes.
Let it reboot.

Now, is your CD-drive working?
Within Windows, hold-down the "Windows" key, and (once) touch the 'E' key.
Do you see an icon for the CD-drive?
If not, then the CD-drive is *NOT* physically-connected (either ribbon-cable or power-cable) to your computer's motherboard.
