Question about Roland Spd-S Sampling Percussion Pad System

Open Question

The sound output of my Roland SPD-S is very low. I have tried it on various amplifiers and in various inputs of the amplifiers so I an quite convienced the problem is not with the amp or cables. I am however not using the Roland power adapter because I can't find it. Does anyone know if not using exactly the correct power adapter would cause this sort of problem?

SOURCE: Roland SPD-S Flash card error

The card I have always been using is now also suddenly giving this message. I found an old SanDisk 16MB and a 1GB SanDisk that works perfectly in my Boss 864 and they also give the same message. Trying to go into formatting brings the message "no card!"

SOURCE: roland Spd-s pad #1 change to different patches when hit

I'm an experienced SPD-S user and there is no option that allows the SPD-S to produce random sounds from the same PAD.

I can think of 3 reasons why this may be:

  1. In patch mode, a PAD can be assigned with 2 different sounds (wave A & wave B). Wave A will be produced on soft hits while wave B will be produced on hard strokes. To ensure only 1 sound is produced by a specific PAD, make sure no sound is selected in wave B (only wave A will be produced regardless on the force of the stroke).
  2. Your PAD has a very strong and moving effect turned on (such as a phaser or a filter) that makes your wave to sound different between hits. Turn off the effect (press on the Effect button until the light is off) then hit the pad again to see if it fixes your problem.
  3. If none of the previous 2 solution fixes your prublem then your SPD-S is probably malfunctionning.

Is there any way I can output the sound from the set to an amplifier & speakers

You need both an output from whatever it is you want sound from, as well as an input to your amplifier.
The source could have "audio out" sockets, or possibly a "headphone" socket.
The amplifier may have an "aux" input, or another input for something else that is not in use. You could edit your question and name the inputs on the amp. and outputs on your source to aid in getting advice, possibly also identifying what type of sockets are fitted.
The "audio out" would be a "line level" output, but the "headphone" output is likely fairly low level. It could still be high enough to drive into an "aux" input, worth a try.
You need suitable cables with end plugs to suit each end of the connection.

Why will Amp not produce sound unless the input and output are patched together

A typical stereo receiver / amp consists of switching low level input signals (CD, DVD, Phono, DAT, etc.), processing them and then output to the amplifier (low level) input for amplification to levels needed to drive speakers. The low level signals would barely be audible via an earphone, so they need to be boosted significantly in order to drive speakers.

Some amps provide jumpers to insert into the phono jacks on the rear of the amp to bridge the processed low level output signals into the low level amplifier input. You could install a Y cable here to feed two amplifiers - or - connect a tape recorder's "REC L+R" to the low level output and the "PLAY L+R" to the low level amp input so that you'd hear the actual audio as it had been recorded on the tape.

If you remove the jumpers (or tape recorder if used instead), there is no way for the low level audio to get into the amp's low level inputs for amplification.

Can you please tell me the best amp that I can use to hook up a Roland SPD 30, I'm looking for one to get volume. ( loud ).

Hi, With my sound engineers hat on I would use a small PA. mixer, amp and speakers!!!!
For quality you need a full, flat frequency range system with good headroom.
I assume this is for your own listening, when using an acoustic kit?
There are one box solutions.
  1. Drum amps. Like a monitor wedge with an amp, Roland do a PM-10, Various other makes are available.
  2. General purpose powered wedge.
  3. Keyboard Amp, these are full range and available in various sizes.
  4. Bass amp with high frequency driver (tweeter), not the best but will have good bottom end.
  5. Powered or active speaker, much like a powered wedge, but a different shape, needs an input volume control.
All these systems need to have large bass units, 10 inch minimum, and will be in mono. Two will give you stereo,
How loud depends primarily on the sensitivity of the speaker. But manufactures insist on selling things by power. Worth looking this up.
At a couple of feet away, 20 watts should do it, with high sensitivity speakers, more likely you find most things as above start at about 70 Watts.
Good luck, I hope I have widened you choices a bit.
All the best, Chris the Fader.

Roland spd 20 analog test error+reason

The adaptor for the SPD-20 is not 12 V ac (Altern Current) the SPD-20 need only Altern current (12V AC)
if the adaptor is 12 v cc, the internal circuits can not made +5v , 0, -5v
for simetrical operactional supply.
And Spd 20 show "Analog test err" and "batery low"

You can reset Roland SPD-S by using Roland SPD-S utility CD supplied with product.
If you can't locate (or lost) the CD that is included with the SPD-S which contains the factory data, you can download the file here:

Click the downloads tab and select the "SPD-S Factory Restore Data" (PC or Mac) link.

I think it helps.

Echo into mixer

I think the Echo's output goes into the mixer's input. You should be using one's output into other's input...that's how things work.If you r talking about both the system's input then they won't work with each other. Other thing is that if it's mono then there r cable available for the use which transfers mono to stereo input and vice-versa.
