Your can RESET your scanner to erase all data that you've programmed into it and return it to its original factory settings. To do this:
1. Power the scanner OFF.
2. While holding in the 2, 9, and HOLD keys, power the scanner ON. The process takes about 3 seconds, and the word CLEAr will display.

For single channels, you can program "000.0000" into any one of them to clear its programmed data, or just program a new frequency into the channel. The new data will override the old information.

Need the factory operating manual for your scanner? You can download and print it, free of charge, here:

Can't seem to get any activity even after programming some frequencies in to it(BC72XLT)

Are you sure that the frequencies you programmed are active in your area? Try a weather band search (press Func and Svc) to verify that the scanner is working properly. If you receive one or more NOAA weather broadcast channels then you need to visit www.RadioReference.com and check their database for active freqs in your area. If you cannot receive weather then you have an antenna or receiver problem.

I have a Uniden BC72XL scanner and cats knocked it

In your manual, if you have one, if not look it up on the internet. There are ways with all these types of communications, to reset to manufacturer and factory settings at time of new purchase. Then proceed forward in programming.

NEED A MANUAL TO PROGRAM

...ok, here is your owner's manual:

http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC72XLTom.pdf

Page 33 of that document begins a discussion of 'operations programming'..and there are other chapters for related functions.

Your specification sheet (on that document above) begins at page
56 - 58 does not mention any method of programming your Uniden
handheld using an external computer or data system. Check later
models from Uniden if that is desired. Yes saving frequencies and
reprogramming a handheld can be done and several agencies often
add security codes for their handhelds as well.

Cant program frequencies into my uniden bc72xlt scanner

Just to verify you are trying to program frequencies the scanner is able to receive.
This unit is limited to the following freq range.
25.0-27.995
28.0-29.695
29.7-49.995
50.0-54.0 5
108.0-136.9875
137.0-143.995
144.0-147.995
148.0-174.0 5
406.0-419.99375
420.0-449.99375
450.0-469.99375
470.0-512.0 6.25

If the frequencies your are trying to enter or outside these bands you will get a error.

Next Direct Entry Mode Programming
Press Func. + PGM
Press E to enter ch in current location
To change location pres func + Up ^ or down key to choose location then press E
Enter your freq then press E

Hope this helps.

Clear out everything do the following

While holding down 2, 9, and Hold, turn on the

I have a new BC72XLT that I recieved as a gift. I have tried to program in the local frequencies but still have not been able to get one in. I have read the instruction book a hundred times. Can anyone me...

If you know the freq. codes, push hold, the bank number you want to store it in, push func., then push E(for program), type in the code(this includes the decimal), then push E. DLY will show up for a delay if there's not a transmission on the freq.

You can't add to the preprogrammed search functions, but you can program frequencies from these bands into any locations you wish within the 100 programmable channels, where it will jump bands while scanning.
