I have several maglites and have used them for years. The first thing I would make sure of is that the bulb you replaced was the right one for 2 D-cell flashlights, specifically for maglites. Other bulbs won't work properly. Next I would make sure all contact points for batteries are clean. The ones you can reach on batteries, base of bulb and base cap for light can be cleaned with fine grade sand paper, emery board or steel wool. On the contact bar that runs the length of inner tube you can check where switch makes contact. If corrosion is evident you can lightly scrape with long blade screwdriver or other tool or knife. I have rarely had a bulb burn out immediatly after installation. I would check bulb again and then make sure that end cap and top assembly are threaded in place. Also try rotating beam adjusting setting back and forth several times. I'm sure it could be the switch I've just never had that problem. Hope this helps. thanks

I cannot get the one d cell battery left out of my 5 d cell mag flashlite I've done everything with no luck I don't want to destroy it with my frustration can someone help me please

Remove the lens end of the flashlight. Remove bulb. At the switch there is a small screw that should release the socket for the bulb and what ever else is left in the tube. If battery still stuck should be able to push it on through with what ever you have that will fit in the tube,.

How do I replace the led in a 2w d cell maglite

Unscrew the top half of the flash light and pull the bulb straight up, and it's out,

Not to mention there's usually a spare bulb in the base of the flashlight under the spring in a piece of foam. unless someone used it already,

Line up the two pins and slide it back into the to pin holes on top and with the bottom of the flashlight back on with battery's try the on off switch and make sure it lights up and not have dead battery's, if it lights up throw away the old led and screw on the top of flashlight,

If it still don't light check for new battery's.

Keeps blowing new bulbs

Since this is a simple construction flash light (no electronics) make sure you are installing the correct bulb for the voltage of the batteries.
If you use a bulb that is for a 2 cell (3.0 volt) in a flashlight that takes 4 cells (6.0 volt) the bulb will burn out every time.

Unless the bulb is burned out or you are putting the batteries in wrong there is not much that can go wrong with a flashlight.

Area light works but not the spotlight

Check the contacts going to the batteries. The negative contact is
going the flashlight body. While the other starts at the center of the
bulb socket that goes to the switch and finally to the positive terminal
of the battery. Get it done and send an e-mail .

Have put new batteries in bulb is ok just stopped workin 5 cell dd batts

First of all are you certain the bulb is ok? Test for continuity across the light bulb. The filament in light bulb will have a very low resistance. if you are not handy with a multimeter then respond back with a new thread and I can give you more tips on using a multimeter.
Next, clean the contact surfaces off where the battery terminals contact the flashlight copper contacts. You can use a high grit sand paper if necessary. They sell battery terminal cleaner solutions/supplies at Automotive stores if you like. However, distilled water and/or alcohol will probably work just as good.
Next connecting one probe of your multimeter to the top inner contact and then the other probe of your multimeter to the lower inner contact turn off and on the switch. When the switch is on, you should see the same resistance that you checked the resistance of the light bulb filament.
If you don't see the same resistance then switch is bad.
If resistances are equal then place batteries back in flash light and everything should be good to go!

How do you change the bulb in a minimaglite

1. Unscrew the "bell" (top) of the flashlite. 2. Remove the bulb by pulling upward. 3. Replace with new bulb (be sure you have the correct bulb . . . it will have two small wires protruding from the bottom). 4. CAREFULLY insert new bulb through hole in the bottom of the reflector. 5. Screw the top of the flashlight back on.
