Question about Canon PowerShot SD750 / IXUS 75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Sd750 card lock

Camera got a little wet a month ago (in uganda!) and then worked fine once dried out until i got a memory card lock error. the card is fine - something wrong with the camera. i'm trying to figure out if worth trying to repair overseas (in johannesburg but heading to zimbabwe) or not. any posssibilities this is something fairly simple, i.e corroded contact points? thanks.

It was stupid to attempt to fit cards that didn't...

And now the cards that do fit don't work (can't delete files, etc.)

And with a music vid project due in 3 days with about 2/3s to film...I'm screwed, Lord have mercy...

The camera is only about 170$ brand new right now. So it is definetly gonna cost more to fix being that your overseas.
Much easier to replace it with a comparable one.
Thanks,
Lee

My flip got wet and wont turn on. is there anyway to save videos

Do you use memory cards with your camera? If so, the videos should be saved on the memory card. Just remove the card and download it to your pc or view it in another camera.

If you do not use memory cards, then remove the battery from the camera, put it in a bag of dry rice. close the top of the bag and leave the camera in that bag for about a week to dry it out all the way. Once it has dried out, it should work fine. But do not try and turn it on and off ect while part is still wet or you may loose your videos stored on it and/or damage the camera.

I have a 4GB SD HC card that works well in my Powerhot SD750 but gives an error code "Memory Card Error" and "Card Locked!" on my PowerShot S2 IS. Is there a fix for this? Peter

The S2 IS uses SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. While you can use SDHC cards with the SD750, you will have to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller, with the S2 IS.

My Canon PowerShot SD750 (digital elph), when I turn it on, it reads "Memory card error" at the top. It shows a picture in the viewfinder, and all other functions seem to work but it will not take a photo....

Hello

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea

The camera will not turn on.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

My memory card is locked+its not the camera as other memory cards work in it, i've moved the little plastic tab up+down+applied tape, but nothing has worked, HELP!!!!

If the memory card truly is bad, then download any pictures on it to your computer. A locked memory card simply prevents writing to it, it doesn't affect reading it. Then get a new card and throw the old one away. It's just not worth trying to fix a bad memory card.

Memory card error/card locked

I don't know for sure, but since it is "grayed out," it MAY be that your camera can';t utilize a card that big (in gig's that is.)

Just a guess.
