Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

Fan stopped working then globe and remote stopped

Hi, the fan on my sp4805 wasnt working working so I replaced the fan with a computer fan. It seemed to work fine until I switched off the projector and when I switched it back on the remote doesnt work and there is no light (the bulb is practically new). It looks like other people are having the same problem. Is there anyway to identify/fix the problem without having to buy new boards or a new projector.

Thanks. Yes I would greatly appreciate the service manual if you have it. Since its out of warrantee and service centers cost a fortune I am trying to fix myself.... crazy I know J

The fan was slightly different but I only had it running for about 1 min. Everything including bulb and remote was working so I switched it off at the power and put the unit back together. This was when everything stopped. I put the old fan back in so when you switch it on you can here the fan try to ramp up, the green light flashes. I have pressed the buttons on the unit but they dont appear to do anything but I assumed you would not be able to tell if they worked because the bulb doesnt work......I may be sadly mistaken.

The original fan works fine if you plug it into 12V, but in the unit it tries to ramp up then stops then tries again etc

Hi there

Yes, unfortunately it is another common fault, sad really lol
The remote not working could be due to the little remote sensor board that you will have seen when taking it apart (I have a service manual if you would like it), do any of the buttons on the unit itself work that you know of?
The bulb not lighting issue can be a number of things, usually a safety wise. When you replaced the fan, what were the specifications of the fan you used? Usually computer fans differ slightly to the ones used in this model, and can cause them to fail and the unit to over heat. If the projector switches on for a bit and then turns off, it means the safety thermostat in it is cutting out preventing overheating, you could try bypassing it just to see if the bulb will ignite. I know it may sound a bit dumb but check the safety switch on the door is fully in?
If you would like the service manual I could send it to you, I found it very helpful with mine, also a forum, I think AVS was extremely helpful aswell.

Sorry if this doesn't help, I will look into it further

Hey rustee, you still around? Could you please send me this info? I really need it. I just can´t figure out to exactly where you hard wired the nokia charger and if you recommend any type of on/off switch. I know that to "hard off" (unplug) the projector from the electrical outlet all the time, is a no no for the life of the bulb

I have a H27A optoma projector, glass inside has broken, globe is not broken projector does not work and fan and globe do not come on

Might as well unplug it from the mains and carefully remove the cover and look inside to see where all the damaged optical bits are. Then you can figure if it's worth fixing it. Sounds like a fuse or overtemperature switch may be stopping the unit from operating anyway.

Generally, proyectors has more than one fan. One fan is uses to cold the lamp, the second one to keep the color wheel cold. Other one could work with the micro.
If you don't take care to keep the item clean of dust, proyector gets hot and can be damage.

the high-pitched sound is the colorwheel trying to spin up to speed. that may need to be replaced. check the inside of the lamp for bulges, black spots, fogging or flaking. if it has any of those, replace the lamp. you can get parts from an infocus service center or send it to them for repair. either way, try they're really good. if you want to replace it yourself, there is a detailed step-by-step on my "tips" area. it's the same as the infocus x1, x2, x3 and sp4805. click on my picture and scroll down to tips. good luck!

How do you change the colour wheel

remove the rear panel, front panel, and top. the colorwheel is between the lens and the lamp. removing it is easy, but to unplug it, you need to remove the 2 power boards, the shield, and the fan/lamp housing assembly. there is a tip on this site with a detailed description on replacing it. it's under infocus x2. the x2 and the sp4805 are basically the same machine.

SP4805 bulb does not fire up; led stays green; fan turned on

I had the same problem after purchasing a new bulb. My husband pulled it out after it would not fire up and the new bulb plug in conecter (white with 4 holes with two wires) was different. Take your old bulb and compair the two conecters and see if they match, then check if the wires are in the same slots as in first and last. Mine on the new one were in the first and second to last slot. So we took the wire out of the second to last and put it in the last slot and installed it and it fixed the problem. We also had to unplug and replug it in and do a master reset by pressing the Power and Channel buttons and the same time for 15sec. Hope this helps.

SP4805 Fan Issue

the fans in these models do not have a speed sensor wire to let the main board know to turn off the lamp to not risk overheating. so if the fan goes, the lamp remains on. however, if the lamp exploded, check the vents for dust. there is a temp sensor that will shut down the projector if it gets too hot. if the vents are clogged, blow the dust out of the projector with canned air. the dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expell. easiest way to repair the fan w/o buying a part: splice the fan wires together. they can share voltage. if the 80mm fan does not work at all after that, replace the fan (pn: 526-0192-xx).

Unable to switch off projector with remote (Infocus SP4805)

A bit unusual for the projector to stop responding to the remote. Usually it follows when someone has opened the projector, they forgot to reconnect the controls from the case top which also includes the IR receiver. If it isn't that, it could be a broken IR pc board or bad connection. I've seen that.

The worst case is that the IR controller on the main board has failed and if that's the case, you'll have to live with it as the cost of a new board is very high.
