You should be able to open up your external hard drive enclosure, find the right size fan, and order another one from almost any online store for cheap. You may even be able to go to some computer store nearby you and you may be able to get one there.

For internal hard-drive:
There's a possibility that the hard drive is cooked. Try running a hard-drive self test by accessing the BIOS screen of your laptop. If the test fails, the your hard-drive is already broken.
Try re-seating your hard-drive. Take it out then put it back in again. If it doesn't work, the hard-drive is broken. If you have a similar drive available, try replacing the drive that displays the error. If the extra drive works without any problems, the old drive is broken.
Consult a local technician. They should be able to assist you in resolving problems like this. They might also be able to help you retrieve important data from the broken drive.
You can also call your computer's manufacturer for troubleshooting or replacements.
For external drives.
Fixes:
1. Plug the hard-drive into another port. 2. Plug the hard-drive to another computer. If you get the same error, the drive is no longer usable.

I cannot access my Maxtor external hard drive. My laptop will not start if the hard drive is attached. If I attach my hard drive after booting up my laptop the laptop freezes.

Your Maxtor HDD is Broken, or Jammed. thats why these hanging things happen. send it to the service center if you have any warrenty. i think they will fix this. if no warrenty then open the HDD casing and remove the HDD and put it in new casing and try backing up Date. best of luck...

Does my notebook need a new heatsink/fan?

If your fan spins at all it is not a problem with the fan. It might be a heat sensor on your motherboard that was not reading correctly.

Now your fan will only run when it needs to so the best thing to do is replace your hard drive and go from there. You can get a hard drive from Best Buy and if that doesn't fix it then your can just return it and buy a new laptop. Or if you want to keep the hard drive just buy a USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive for your pictures, music, etc. Don't go buying a fan if the fan still spins. But a part that can be easily returned first.

Playstation 3 showing a yellow light

this means hadware failure if you still have warrenty send it to sony but if your not under warrenty and want to take matters into your own hands here are a couple of tricks.

again if your under warrenty send it back cause trying to fix yourself could cause void of warrenty

Check the hard drive first,
turn off ps3,....take out the hard drive the hard drive is on the left bottom side, pop the panel off with a small flat head screw driver of knife, then take out the single screw holding it and slide the hard drive to the right with the little handle. it looks like it should pull straight out but it doesnt you have to go straight to the right with it first to get it out of the connectors then pull straight out( when pulling straight out it should be completely free and just lide out)
then boot the ps3 with no hard drive and see if it trys to boot but says no hard drive found instead of the yellow light. if this happens then its the hard drive, you may have to get a new one. any laptop sata drive will work. but before you order a new one try turning ps3 off and putting same hard drive back in this seems to fix a few.

next try the fan test,
with the power switch on the back of the ps3 in the "off" position put your finger on the eject button and hold hit there while you turn the switch on the back to the "on" possition never letting go of the eject button and see if it boots then with a loud fan noise. if it doesnt then could be a number of problems with motherboard or fan or just over heating.
