Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I'va a Mod CLC 503 (new out of box) Not able to receive (signal) when turned on. Attaching to "cable", no box or converter needed. The coax cable I'm using is good, out put from splitter is good. Both tested. Coax connected to the ( #20) RF input located at top of side input positions. I only get a respone of " NO SIGNAL" I see on page 11 of manual a referance of hooking to "basic Cable". I do not understand the term there of connecting 75 ohm coaxial left side cable to the vhf/uhf jack on the bottom of the tv ???I see nothing on the bottom of the tv. Help, what simple thing am I over looking here. I have here a 13 inch HD LCD TV mod. CLC503. ** am not using HD. Thanks, HZ

In the menu settings, there are two things you need to change. There is a reception type that you need to change from "AIR" to "CABLE." You also need to set the channel to whatever your cable box is set for (mine is 4).

You could try coax cable switch.
It will allow you to change from the signal going to the cable receiver and directly to the tv.
You would have to walk over to the tv and physically switch it.
shutting of the cable receiver may help too, while you are watching local channels.
Also, if you get a digital receiver, the digital signals come in much clearer.

It looks like you have a real scientific project. It sounds fascinating and it seems to go well beyond the mere enjoyment of a simple Short Wave Radio. My suggestion: Put your hypotheses/questions to the test and you will form an informed opinion.

Craig clc 503 no signal rca antena

The set has to be set first from cable or sat to Air or antenna in the menu.

That aside the signal has to be good enough for a antenna to pick it up==indoor antennas need to be close to a window etc---line of sight etc and buildings etc may obstruct the signal as well.

what connection exists on rear of set for antenna?

Most VCRs need to be connected in a daisy chain or a splitter from your input source. (You may need a tuner with some VCRs these days; either a digital to analog converter for a VCR with an NTSC tuner or a different tuner source.)

If you have analog cable or a cable box with coax out and a VCR with an NTSC tuner, use the daisy chain method. Connect the incoming cable or the coax out from the cable box to the VCR's coax input. Then connect the VCR coax out to the TVs coax input.

For a VCR without a tuner, you'll probably find a RCA composite video line in option on the VCR. Connect your cable box or converter box composite output to the VCR composite in. For an OTA source, you'll need a splitter to send the signal to both the TV and the converter box.

Most TVs do not have a video output option.

I hope this helps.

Will not receive incoming cable signal

You didn't mention how you are getting your cable, but will touch on it briefly. Please clarify if you need more information.

Your cable comes in through the wall, and it should goto a converter box / receiver box. The output of this box then is connected to your TV via either HDMI, component video, audio visual connections (RCA), or perhaps the cable coax connector. Sometimes, the cable box will connect via a DVI port, but those are relatively uncommon. Almost *all* modern cable systems have gone to a digital format, which requires a converter box. There are very few, if any, cable standards that are still analog (which could be tuned by your tv at one time). If unsure, contact your cable company to find out exactly which you have, and if a converter box will be required.

You need to setup your tv to look at whatever input the cable box is using, or tell it to look for a signal on the cable coax connector. Make sure the cable box is on before you try to set it up, or you may waste your valuable time.

I have an analog tv (coax cable) and a new dvd (av plugs) player. How do I inexpensively connect them? i saw the solution posted about the rf modulator. I have a digital to analog tv convertor. Is this...

NO. An RF modulator and your digital-to-analog (DAC) TV converter are 2 different devices. The DAC will convert over-the-air (OTA) digital television signals from your antenna to analog NTSC format so your older analog TV can receive OTA broadcasts. The RF modulator converts base-band video (composite cable/RCA connector, or S-Video cable connector) to channel 3 or 4, so you can watch video/audio on your set. To use both the RF mod. and the DAC converter to the same TV, use an A/B switch for F-connector coax, or follow the directions for the RF modulator to make the correct connections.

I have a Sylvanis VCR/DVDcombo and a Standard TV.

The converter box receives hte digital signals and converts them into either channel 3 or 4, or into direct video (red, white, yel). The output of the converter box must go into the VCR input for recording to work. Before the conversion, the tuner of hte VCR would receive the RF signal the same as the TV. The tuner inside the VCR is an analog tuner not digital, so it needs the conversion too. Most converters will provide both the A/V signal (R/Wh/Y) and RF (coax connector).

Hope this helps,
Dan

You can use the yellow RCA cable using an SVideo adaptor. When using dual displays make sure that display number 2 is adtive. To do that move the mouse to display 2 press the right mouse button and select active. Check extend desktop to the monitor to check the signal and press apply. Make sure you are using either an Svideo or RCA signal.
