Question about PC Laptops

Laptop help Hi there. My laptop seems to have some booting up issues. When I press the power button, the power LED lights up, but the pc does not boot up and nothing is displayed on the screen. Other times, the pc does boot up but freezes and crashes. The times that it does boot up, it freezes/crashes during the booting process, and even while idle'ing after booting up. Any suggestions? The laptop is a Sony Vaio VGNS150.

My Asus X553M laptop is not booting up. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Temitope, Hard reset. Open computer, remove battery, hold power button down (((1 minute))), reinsert battery, reassemble laptop, push/hold power button a couple seconds.
2nd fix, try to boot laptop without hdd.(hard drive). Remove the hdd, then turn on the laptop.. then it can get into the bios.. reset the bios to the default setting, turn off the laptop, and then turn it on again with hdd reinstalled. This seems to be what works in the forums with this issue found in Asus laptops. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Either the battery is dead or the power supply is damaged.

How can I tell if a power surge hit my laptop and ruined it? I can't even get it to boot up

It could either be that the motherboard is fried or the Hard drive has just gotten slightly corrupted. If you have the Windows install disk that came with it you could boot that up and then go into repair mode (press R) and then run "chkdsk /r" this would fix a hard drive issue. However if your laptop will not turn on at all when you press the power button then it is likely dead.

Laptop problem

If the fan runs and you see lights that's a good thing. It means the laptop is getting power and trying to boot. Now do you hear the hard drive turning? When you press the Power Button do you hear the CD drive click once and notice that the light on the cd drive door turns on for a second or two? These are all good signs of the laptop trying to boot. When you press the power button did you hear any beeps or notice that the lights blink continuously such as 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. The lights and blinks tells the technician what is wrong. When you press the power button do you see anything on the LCD Screen as it goes thru the boot process?

Try removing the battery and the power cord from the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, plug only the power cord in and press the power button to reboot. If it boots that means you had a static buildup which is normal in computers. By hold the power button you released the static. If it boots you can put the battery back in. If it does not boot and if the lights are blinking or you hear beeps you might have a bad memory chip. Unplug the laptop and turn it over to remove the screws tht house the memory chips. Remove one of the memory chips and set it aside. Now try to boot your laptop. If it does not boot, move the memory chip to the other slot and try rebooting. If it boots place an x on the memory chip that you have set aside. If it does not boot remove that chip and put the memory chip you have set aside in the laptop and repeat the process of moving in into each memory slot and trying to boot. If you get it to boot with one memory chip, place the other chip in the available slot (make sure it has an x mark on it so that you will know which one might be bad), then try rebooting. If it fails, that chip is bad. If it does not boot for either chip then more than likely you have a motherboard issue.

NO Display in my laptop

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Try performing a hard reset on the laptop. Remove the battery and all peripherals connected to the laptop (including the AC adapter). Once everything is removed/disconnected, press and hold the power button for around 15 seconds. This will drain all remaining charge in the motherboards capacitors which usually causes this kind of issue.

Hope this help. Goodluck!
