Question about HP 640 Inkjet Fax Machine
I had been confused for the past ten months on this issue and just figured it out! Get a distinctive ring from you telephone service. If you have a answering machine, set it to answer on the 4th ring. On the fax, press menue til you get to the BASIC FAX, press OK, scroll the arrow button til you get to the DISTINCTIVE RING, press OK. Call your special fax number assigned from the telephone co, the machine should read DRPD OK, then on the face of the hp640 on the left i believe is a button called Rcv. Mode/Contrast, press that til you get to DRPD Mode, press OK. It should work great!! Hope this helps.

I just bought that machine and had the same problem. that option is actually located under the BASIC FAX menu, not the ADVANCED FAX menu. I switched my machine to distinctive ring, called it, it recognized the ring, and then I switched it to DRPD option. I can send a fax but not receive one. When the distinctive ring goes off for a fax, it says RECEIVE on the display, but nothing happens, and there is nothing in memory.
Any ideas? Is the HP 640 a hunk of junk????
