the computer? Disconnect the camera from the USB port and reinstall the

should work. Hope this is of some help.Bud

Start- right click my computer - properties - hardware - device manager. Click on the + signs to expand links, find your camera, is there any question or exclamation marks showing, is so, right click & see what it says.
If nothing shows up as wrong, un-install your cam in device manager, restart your computer,(cam unplugged) when up & running, plug your cam back in & system will see it as new device & install it.
Hope this helps your issue.
Have a nice day.
Attach all power cords (e.g. laptopand/or web cam).
Plug your USB cam directly into your computer (do not use any external USB hubs). Turn your cam on
As long as your web cam and computer hardware are working, Windows should detect it!
2. Open Device Manager
For Vista => Click Control Panel. If you have Control Panel Classic View, click Device Manager => Click Control Panel. If you have Control Panel Home View, click System and Maintenance->Device Manager
For XP => Click Control Panel->System, then Hardware tab, then Device Manager button
3. Find your web cam in Device Manager
Understanding Device Names => Windows provides user-friendly device names to accomodate us humans. As far as Windows is concerned, the device name is simply a comment! => It's those cryptic Device Identification strings that really identify a device => Device Manager displays whatever device name it happens to find in the device driver ...==> If Windows finds NO device driver, your web cam may be named “Unknown” or "Other" device ...==> If Windows finds the WRONG device driver you may see your web cam with the WRONG device name
How to find your web cam => While your web cam is connected, look through all of Device Manager for devices with a yellow icon (probably a yellow question mark) => Look if a device category Other Devices. Also, be certain to expand the USB category to check all devices listed under it => Your web cam will appear as a device with a yellow icon (probably a question mark) => Click on thumbnail to see the full sized image How to verify the device you found is your web cam => Your web cam device will only appear in Device Manager when the web cam is powered on and connected => Disconnect your web cam. Verify the device you had found is no longer displayed in Device Manager
4. Find your web cam's Hardware Ids
In Device Manager, select your web cam device, rt click Properties. Click Details tab
Select Hardware Ids from the pull-down. You'll see a list of one or more Hardware Id strings
If it isnt listed under hardware then something may have happened to cause the computer to delete the file "virus protection or firewall" and it may be that your computer just isnt reconizing the software anymore. if you have an installation disk try to use it and reinstall the stuff and go from there.
check the usb settings enabled in the bios or the cable inside the laptop. In some case the usb cable inside get fault and it will not detect the web cam.In normal case if you plug any usb device it will detect the usb device then the os will show new hardware found and will allow you to install the software for it,if it doesnt detect you cannot install the driver for it and in the yahoo messenger it give the message
Green light is on mine, but USB port shows no device. When I plug it in, I get "found new device" message, but no icon on my desktop. None of my messengers recognize it either. It does show up in cameras and scanners though...I'm so confused.
when you were installing the software did a taskbar pop up appear and tell you that hardware was found, and then proceeded to install the cam and inform you that the Logitech STX is now installed and ready for use?
If not then the cam may need to be tried in another usb port as of yet it has not been recognised by windows.
Also if this is being used on a laptop, sometimes there is not enough power amps being sent be the usb port to recognise, again trying a different port may solve that.
If all else fails re install the software again, but make sure windows is allowing the cam to work, as sometimes there is an updater programme that works in conjunction with the cam to update drivers etc, this will probably be being dissalowed by either windows or your internet security programme and any part of the software that is being blocked may be stopping your cam also.
