How to Copy Files to an ExternalHard Drive

External hard drives provide great storage space for movies, music, picturesand other documents you want to keep safe over time. The drives generally comewith either USB 2.0 or Firewire connectors, so they also offer reliable datatransfers at high rates of speed. Setting the drives up is usually astraightforward process, and copying files to them from your computer is a snap.

1. Set up your external hard drive according to its instructions. The two majorsteps in setting one up are connecting it to your computer and plugging it intoan external power source.
2. Install any drivers that camewith your drive so your operating system will recognize it. If the drivers areoutdated, download and install new ones from the manufacturer's website. 3. Open the "MyComputer" panel. You'll see both your regular hard drive (the C: drive)and the external hard drive listed. 4. Double-click the externalhard drive's icon to open its window. 5. Drag and drop any files youwish to copy to the external drive into this window. 6. Right-click the "SafelyRemove Hardware" icon in the System Tray and eject the drive once you'vefinished copying your files. Read more: How to CopyFiles to an External Hard Drive ' eHow.com

I want to copy files from windows 7 to hitachi external hard drive

all you do is right click on the folder or picture you want to move and it will give you the option to copy or cut,cut will remove it from your laptop.so i am taking it you have connected the external hard drive already..if not you will need to attach the external hard drive useing a usb cable from the external hdd to your laptop.
so when you have cut what ever you want to move open your external hdd and right click inside there and and just pick paste that will put it on your external hdd the item you have just cut from your laptop.

Medion How To

Basically it is drag and drop. Plug your USB external drive in. Navigate to the drive and folder you wish to store them and minimise the page. Go to Picasa and right mouse click on the photos you want then when what you require are highlighted press Ctl and C together. Maximise your external drive, select where you wish them to go and press Ctl and V.
Ctl and C = Copy
Ctl and V = Verify or Paste.
Hope that helps.

Don't know to transfer my PC hard drive to my Seagate external hard drive (1T)

You can copy paste the contents or cut and paste or right mouse click on contents and click "send to....external drive" Once the contents is on the external drive this can be taken to another PC and copied back. Caution: Some contents can be very LARGE and take a LONG time to be copied! It is advisable to run a BACKUP every now and then. And be sure your external drive is working correctly (Scandisk).

My WD My Passport external Hard Drive ! TB formatted for Mac is not reading my files

A Windows PC computer will not read files on the WD hard drive that has been formatted on a MAC.
The fix.
Copy your photos onto the MAC computer then remove the WD hard drive and connect it to your Windows PC and format the WD hard drive in FAT32 file system.
After formatting has been completed remove the WD hard disk and connect it to the MAC computer. The MAC can read and write to a Windows FAT32 formated hard disk. You can now copy the photos from the MAC to the WD hard disk. When copying is complete, remove the WD hard drive and connect the WD hard drive to your Windows PC and you can now copy the photo from the WD hard disk to your Windows PC.

Any file may be infected on the main drive.
Purchase a copy of Norton AntiVirus if you cannot download a copy of Microsoft Essentials, from the Microsoft web site ONLY!
Hopefully that will sort it out.

congratulations on switching to mac!plug the external hard drive back into the PC, and copy the photo's to the PC, now plug it into your mac and go to applications-utilities-disc utility, the external drive should be listed on the left, click on the erase tab, at the volume format select "ms-dos file system", then click the erase button, this will erase everything on the drive and set it up so your mac can use it (but its ok because you moved all your pictures to the PC) now you can go back to the PC and copy the pictures on the external drive and it will work with your mac.
