In my Philips DVD players, recently I have tried to play few film DVDs, and it showed region error/or wrong region. Could you please help me out with this and tell me what should I do?? I talked to the...

The DVD you're using is probably from elsewhere than the region you live in. It is almost certainly possible to temporarily change the region by using a trick which will not damage your machine in any way. Google "Philips DVP642 region hack" and there will be an answer.

No pwr

the flashing red light is caused by a burst or bulging capacitor on the power supply side of the dvp642's mainboard.
to fix it simply dis-assemble the unit removing the mainboard totally from the casing. search for the bad capacitor on the main board. once you have found it simply turn the board over and using a soldering iron and some desolder twine desolder the capacitor from the board being careful not to burn the circuit board or lift any traces.once you have removed the old capacitor take it and purchase a replacement from radioshack or equivalent store. make sure the replacement has the exact same voltage rating and AT LEAST THE SAME AMPERAGE higher is ok lower will not work.but the voltage must be exactly the same. resolder the new capacitor to the mainboard and reassemble and viola your up and running again

DVP642 DVD Player is only working in Audio mode

Mine does the same. Cannot get a picture using the Yellow RCA output. Use an S-video cable if you can - it should still work. If you get a black and white picture using the S-video output, go to MENU > VIDEO page and change the output from PyBywhateveritis to S-video and the color will come back. I only found out mine was broken when I needed to use the s-video cable for something else and tried switching to the Composite Video (RCA) to no avail no matter how many cables or TV inputs I tried.

Philips DVP642 No Disc

clean the disks as well as possible with cleaner and soft cloth. the problem is not the disks, but the fact that the DVD reader has become really sensitive.

if that wont help, open up the case (screws on sides and back), and clean the DVD mechanism and lens as best as possible.

you still might be SOL, but its worth a try since its out of warranty, and a replacement player is $60.

DVD playback color

When passing the video signal thru a VCR on the way to the TV, you are activating the DVD's "Macrovision" copy protection.  You need to hook it directly to the TV.

Philips DVP642 DVD Player "No disc" problem

if its still under warranty, do that.

if it's not, try taking it back to the store and asking for a replacement. don't let the floor salesman tell you no. insist on speaking to the manager. my strategy is to: "be polite, appear slightly stupid, and dont take no for an answer" it works 80-90% of the time.

if you cant get anywhere (or dont want to try that route), then you have nothing to lose. open the case and try to clean the mechanism and lens

two screws on either side of the unit, and i think another 4 screws on the back side. this will allow you to pull the top cover off the unit.

clean the mechanism, and clean the lens. you can buy cleaner if you want, but i just use a soft cloth and some "no-streak" type window/glass cleaner (windex)

clean your disks as well. this DVD player seems to be sensitive to scuffs and dust more than some other players. you just have to be persistent.

or you could buy another DVD player. at $60, its really a pretty good deal anyhow.

good luck

Won`t play disney movies

Apparently this is a known issue. Some dvp642 players have compatibility issues with some of the Disney DVD's. A firmware update might help. There is a discussion of this at:
