I'm afraid that in this situation, the operating system will have to be installed from a DVD. If you can't get to the 'recovery console' or the 'restore' area, then that's the only way I know that it can be reinstalled.

Unfortunately, many newer computers don't come with the backup disks or recovery disks, and you should make your own whenever the computer is first used.

Good luck on this repair or reinstallation of windows vista.

Laptop will not load windows vista from bios mode. I have tried recovery discs but still NG, from start up goes past bios & then stops as Vista is starting.

have you tried a system restore and then booting up? I had an issue booting up with vista and tapping Alt+F10 during BIOS fixed, it seems to skip the corrupted part of the boot.

id reinstall vista ! if you want to do this you need to get in to the bios which u press F2 i believe when the comp first starts up when your in the bios scroll along to boot menu u shud see a boot list with your hard drive at the top ,you need to change your dvd drive to the top so itll boot from dvd , restart your computer with a windows vista disc in the dvd drive and i think it shud give you an option to fix your system if doesnt work then definitly do a clean install of vista using your product code . hope this works

Blinking white dash during boot.

Something has messed with your MBR, master boot record, which is a small sector at the beginning of your first hard drive which tells the bios which partition to boot. You'll have to use your xp or vista's installation disc to repair the system.( Choose; repair this installation of windows when prompted )
While you are in the bios check under the boot section the order of your boot devices. If you have more than 1 HD check that the one containing your OS is first.

When I boot into Windows Vista Premium nothing on screen

In Safe Mode, your monitor will not be listed as it is using a generic device driver for basic display. Go into your video settings and reset it to the lowest resolution available. Reboot the computer into Vista again and your display should be working. If you check Device Manager now, you should see your monitor listed. If it isn't, you will need to load the Vista drivers for it. You can then modify your display settings to suit your preferences.

I have a Aspire 3680 Laptop/Notebook 80GB 14-WXGA Vista HomeBasic 9980286710 PC Notebook. The problem is that when you turn it on it only boots as far as the windows logo screen and then it goes black.

Press the start button then hold down F8 to go to a black screen with writing. Scroll to boot windows to last known good boot (maybe not exact words, but do last known good start) Click that option and windows should boot to the last good start of your computer.

When logging into windows vista, screen says locked. Once I type password in the desk top appears briefly and then goes back to login screen

Boot up your PC then when the bios screen disappears press F8 (to give you menu options like safe mode) one of these options is a vista repair option.....choose that and your pc should boot into windows properly....I believe this is a corrupt winlogon.exe....
