Question about Velodyne DLS-5000R Subwoofer

Open Question

My Velodyne DLS-5000R makes a noise for about three seconds after everytime it outputs sound. The sound is like a cinder block being dragged then a small thump like you would hear if the unit were unplugged suddenly. I am guessing the capacitor is not holding it's charge but would like someone's advice before considering a repair. It works great otherwise but the sound is annoying especially during previews, Thanks!!

Yes the amp section can be peplaced.

Call Velodyne, the amps are not that expensive.

SOURCE: I hear some noise coming out from the woofer of CHT-12R

It very well could be the spaker leads hitting the speaker cone.

You could check this by removing the amp section from the back.
Remove the screws at the very edge of the amp panel.

Velodyne exists. I've done repairs on their gear. They're rediculously hard to get any answers out of. But they'll so anything they can to void the warranty.

We have a buzzing noise from our subwoofer. it's connected to a receiver, but the receiver is connected to a computer on a different floor. if we just use the regular radio it's fine, but if we listen to...

If it's source specific the problem would be with the source. Is the PC output sufficiently high that you don't have to crank the (unnamed) electronics amplifier volume up real high to listen to the PC? That would raise the noise floor.

Not that it would help.

Is the white noise present in the absence of an input connection, free-floating?

The amps in both of them sound like they

I have had my subwoofer for 6 years. It has always

One way to check the operation is to connect a source directly to the inputs of the sub.

A CD player will work fine. Connect the out puts of the CD player to the inputs on the sub. Play a CD.

If you get music from the sub, then no problems with sub.

If nothing, sub has problem.

Could be

A Dead amp.

A Dead speaker.

Velodyne products usually need to be returned to them for service.

Cost is unknown.

1. Verify unit is plugged in and power outlet used is active.
2. Is power switch on?
3. Is auto turn on/off set properly?
4. Is unit receiving an input signal from your source?

6. If unit has been running at high levels, one of the protection circuits may be engaged.
7. Has the built-in amplifier overheated?
