My 42" lg lcd loses the picture after about three minutes, but it still has sound. The green power light will finally turn red and the tv shuts down.

When I turn the TV on, it keeps clicking off and on continuously and I cannot turn it off. I have to unplug it and plug it back in and it will stay on. I have searched the LG website but have found nothing related to this problem.

There is probably a firmware update on the LG website that should take care of this.Go to the downloads area and enter the model number for available updates.

There is a safety feature on all larger LG LCDs that if the unit is to full of dust to let the fan cool properly or the fan is to full to operate at full speed the TV will not turn on it will flash green when powered on then click and go to red. I brought mine in the first time it cost $50 to get it cleaned and reset. If you are electronics sauvy its not that hard to do your self . Hopefully its that simple for you as well other wise these are all good places to start.

LG LCD 42" sound but no picture

From this web site it says:
Powering Off
  • Many LG LCD television owners report having a problem with their televisions where the screen powers on, but then lasts only a few seconds or a few minutes before powering itself off again. The problem usually occurs with brand new televisions, and in this case is inside the television itself. If your television is powering off unexpectedly, contact LG so it can be serviced.

My TV turns itself off within 5 seconds after I turn it on. Whether I use the remote or turn it on manually it shuts off.

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

42 in LG LCD TV turns off by itself

Found that TV started switching off by itself. Would try to come light blinked for 2-3 seconds, tv came on (with picture and sound) for 1 or 2 seconds and then it would turn itself off. Found that the issue is with one channel only. If you are facing this issue....try quickly changing the channel the moment it comes on. You can do it either with remote or with the TV buttons directly. also in the same logic, if this is still happening, try changing the source to another (rgb-pc, av1, av2 etc). Basically change it from whatever input it is on currently, if changing the channels does not work. My symptom was that the tv made a loud 'TIK' 'TAK' sound which is louder than normal.
