Unlikely. It is more likely to be the washable pre motor filter. Check the tutorials here: Looking after your Dyson.

Does dyson DC14 have a thermal cut-out? If so where is it?

Hi Michael, it's Jack at Dyson.

Yes, like most Dyson vacuums, DC14's motor is protected by a thermal cutout, which shuts the machine down if it starts to overheat. It should reset itself automatically after your machine's had 1-2 hours to cool down.

To prevent this from reoccurring we'd recommend checking your machine for any blockages in the cleaner head, internal airways, wand or hose: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc14/dc14-origin-iron/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

It's also a good idea to give the pre-filter a wash as shown in the video guide below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it. The pre-filter is engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use, and as long as it's maintained as recommended we wouldn't expect it to need replacing.

Short run cycle, cuts off

Dyson cut out
The motor is fitted with a thermostat. If the motor gets too hot the thermostat turns the motor off to avoid burn-out.
When you normally vacuum you are using the machine in its normal upright position. When you clean your car you use the hose. When you cover the hose nozzel to sook stuff up it deprives the motor of air. Air helps keep it cool. (Its similar to puting your hand on the back of a hairdrier). Add to this the fact that any air it does get is a bit warmer than usual.
Also a dirty filter will cause the motor to suffer lack of air so always wash your filter at least every 2 months.

How many filters does a dyson dc07 have

Hi there, the DC07 has 2 filters. A pre motor washable filter and a post motor filter which will be either a simple pad (like thick cloth) or a Hepa filter (about and inch thick with a plastic housing). The post motor filter should not be washed but the pre motor filter can. As a technician I would recommend replacing every couple of years for best running of your vacuum. The post motor filter is under the clear bin, you can lever the cover off with a small flat blade screwdriver. The washable filter is to the right of the post motor filter inside a removable housing.

Dyson dc07 keeps cutting out after few minutes

This is a sure sign of a blockage. The motor cuts out because it gets too hot and will start again when it has cooled. Follow the instructions in your user manual for clearing blockages (you can download a copy from the Dyson website if necessary). Make sure the washable filter is clean too (and completely dry before you use it).

Moter cuts out after a few minutes

The motors have a "trip" to protect them, and you if a serious problem caused a fire, which can be tripped if the filters are blocked and causing the motor to overheat.
The filter at the top of the cyclone (the bit on top of the dust container) should be cleaned regularly (more often than Dyson suggest), and under the dust container you may not have noticed there is another filter - called the post motor filter. This isn't mentioned in the user book but does get clogged after a few years of use. It can be removed and can be replaced - eBay has companies that can help.
If all filters are clean and okay, it is probably the early stages of complete motor failure. If you're good at DIY, the site www.dysonmedic.com has some good info on how to change a motor. Again, eBay will help find a motor.
If you dont fancy having a go, either ring Dyson or a local vacuum repair company.

Run cut off -run cut off every ten minutes

The TOC(thermal overload cutout) on the motor is getting too hot - thats why it keeps shutting off and starting again once its cooled, so make sure your filters are clean and they are no blockages in the hose or the brushbar compartment or any where else
Which dyson is it?

Dyson cleaner keeps cutting out, no blockage found, filter clean.

1. Check the on/off button these can also be troublesome and if you've stood on the cable once or twice you could have a break in the wire and it's shorting, check by turning on and wiggle cable around where it enters machine.
2. Faulty thermocouple, it is held in a white plastic housing screwed with one T15 torx screw to the motor housing. You could replace it but I just shorted mine with some wire and it hasn't failed since and more importantly not caught fire yet!

Why does my dyson dc04 work for about 5 mins then cut out

I spent 4 years working on Dyson v/ceaners in the Uk
So, heres what to;
Check your filters - and for blokages in the hose and brush comparments, you have one in at top of the bucket called pre motor filter and one on top of the motor where the bucket sits called post motor filter. If these are worn and mucky wash them or replace.
Switch on your Dyson with no filters in and leave running to see if it cuts out. (in side on the motor their a liitle device called a TOC thermal over load cut out device. when the motor runs too warm - the TOC with cut power to the motor and will work again when cooled down.
Good luck.
