What's the Model Number of the Intel motherboard, or what is the computer manufacturer's name and Model Number of the computer, it came out of? Right off the bat, YES. It will definitely have a PCI slot. You can put a Graphics Card in a PCI slot. (Graphics card/Video card = Same/same) A PCI graphics card is NOT the way to go however. TOO SLOW, not enough 'graphics power'. The next step up is an AGP slot. The next step up after that is a PCI Express x16 slot. With the generic info given, I cannot tell you if the motherboard you're referring to has an AGP slot, or a PCI Express slot.

You should make sure you have the latest video driver for your motherboard. These are available from the motherboard makers website. Or, you could buy a cheap video card and run this instead, it will bypass the onboard graphics chip.

Replacing the motherboard and/or cpu on an Emachine T2958

Your motherboard can handle a P4 2.8Ghz chip with 1MB cache or you could go to the P4 3.06Ghz chip with 512KB cache. And either one would give you a bit of a performance improvement. I think the bigger question would be: is there any place locally where you could get a screamin' deal on a motherboard/CPU package that would still support the memory your currently have?

A motherboard replacement would not require you go purchase a new retail MS OS. It would require re-activation of your current product though which could entail a toll-free phone call to Microsoft and your existing product key.

    How to increase video memory

If your video card uses a portion of your system RAM you can adjust the amount it uses through the BIOS or the advanced settings of the Driver Software.

Typically, the amount of video memory is locked because it's integrated to the video card; the only way to upgrade the card capabilities is by upgrading the card itself.
