Is it possible to upgrade NT4.0 to Windows 2000 or XP?

Hi experts,

Could you please help on the following:

1. I would like to upgrade NT4.0 to Windows 2000 or Windows XP on ACER Altos 600 server. Is that possible?

2. There are 3 PCI cards in the server which I don't have the driver. They work well in NT4.0. Will they work in 2000 or XP?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Upgrade

1. You must buy a copy of Windows XP (Home or Pro); the best prices appear to be for Home (but it has some restrictions on networking to other computers), and the Upgrade versions, but you can also buy Professional and "Full" system, if you wish.

2. Run the Windows CD you get, and follow the "Install" and "Upgrade" instructions posted on the screen.

3. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, ask around your neighborhood for someone who's done it before...preferably someone who's done it LOTS of times.

I need to up grade my windows 2000 to windows xp

First you need to make sure that your computer meets the following specifications:
- 300 MHz (or higher processor)
- Intel Pentium/Celeron or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron compatible processor.
- 128 MB of RAM (or higher)
- 1.5 Gigabytes of available hard disk space
- Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor.

I am sure that your computer likely meets all of these requirements, but I posted them to save you the grief if by chance it does not meet one of the above!

In a moment I will post a link to a website where you can purchase an upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP home edition (Service Pack 2).

Once you have the software, start up windows 2000 and place the disk into the CDROM drive. You should be given an option to upgrade to XP. (make sure you start the disk while you are on the Windows 2000 desktop with all programs closed). After XP is installed if your computer does not have an Antivirus program installed, I strongly recommend either installing Norton Antivirus or AVG. AVG is free and can be downloaded from http://www.avg.com/. Then make sure that your windows firewall is turned on. (It should be automatically) After this go to Microsoft.com and download service pack 3 and any additional updates needed.

The upgrade version of Windows XP home with service pack 2 can be purchased from newegg.com by clicking on this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16837116194.

I hope that this information has been helpful to you. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
