Question about Cell Phones

Open Question

When trying to install mxit on my blackberry, it says Connection failure. Error-11. And when I select Help, it says Your country specific settings are currently not available. Please contact your network service provider for more information. And when I try to change country, United Kingdom is my only option. I stay in South-Africa.

SOURCE: I am trying to setup my wap settings for internet

Basically what you need are IP address - ask MTN. Proxy Port setting enabled/disabled. Ask MTN. Proxy Port number. Ask MTN. APN. Ask MTN. All these are service provider specific and hence I have asked you to ask MTN. Other settings can be anything. Also you have to get GPRS activated on your mobile number. Ask MTN again. When you have all this inf, then set it up and happy surfing.

I want to use my blackberry 8520 as modem to my laptop

Yes. I used to do that before 3G became popular.
The Dial Code depends on the country and carrier. I used *666#
Set Up a Dial-up Connection
You'll need to set up a dial-up connection on your Windows machine to use the BlackBerry modem. When you installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, it should have automatically installed the modem drivers to use with your device, and you should have a modem called "Standard Modem" in the Phone andModem Options section of your Control Panel. The drivers are located in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Modem Drivers. Use the following steps to set up your connection:
  1. Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the standard USB cable that came with your device and start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.
  2. Go to the Control Panel, then Network Connections, and select Create a New Connection.
  3. Select Connect to the Internet, then Set up my connection manually, then Connect using a dial-up modem, and select your BlackBerry modem from the device list.
  4. Choose a descriptive name for the ISP Name (e.g., BlackBerry Modem Connection).
  5. Enter the phone number for your service provider. You'll probably have to check with your carrier to get the right number. For Cingular and other GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile), it's *99#. For CDMA providers (Sprint, Verizon), the number will be #777.
  6. The username and password will vary by carrier as well. Cingular just accepts null values for both fields.
  7. Complete the wizard, being sure to deselect the "Make this the default connection" checkbox.

Cant download mxit

Before you do anything, you will need to download yourself a copy of Mpowerplayer, which is a java virtual machine. Mpowerplayer will allow you to mount a java file and run MXit. You can get Mpowerplayer by clicking here.

download_mpowerplayer.thumbnail.jpg
Once you have download and installed Mpowerplayer, you will need to get yourself a copy of MXit. You can do this by clicking here firstly, this will take you to the MXit WAP site. Follow the sets below to get yourself MXit:
1. Choose your language.
2. Click on 'Choose phone'.
3. Select your phone make and click accept.
4. Select your phone model and click accept.
5. Select your country and click accept.
6. Select your region, and type in the image code.
7. Click on the 'Normal' link.

This will now download a .jad file to your computer. Make sure you choose a good place to download it to, so you can easily find it once it's downloaded. Once the file is downloaded, which should only take a few seconds, launch Mpowerplayer.

Once Mpowerplayer is open, click on File at the top left of the program, and select 'Open..'. Locate the .jad file you downloaded and open it. This will load MXit in the Java Emulater (Mpowerplayer). From this point on, everything is exactly the same!

Have fun using MXit on your computer!

Installing Sprint Smartview on Windows Vista --Dell laptop

Smartview is supposed to work with Vista. Did you right-click on the install file and run as administrator?

If you can not get it to work there is a work around.

First, download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. After installation, plug in your BlackBerry and start up the software for the first time. Open the Options -> Connection Settings… window and set the connection to USB. Plug in the BlackBerry, enter your password if applicable, and Vista will find the device and install a “standard modem”.
Open the Control Panel
Network and Internet
Connect to a network
Set up a connection or network
Set up a dial-up connection
Select Standard Modem
Dial-up phone number is #777
Connect.

Everything should work, some have reported faster speeds using this method over the Smartview program.
