Most MP3 players can play avi movie files. If you download avi movie files to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player then it can play them without the need to convert movies to avi files.

GeekMan ~ Not this P.O.S ( they call me hacker boy ) for some reason, and i have been troubleshooting this junk player for a week ( with several people i consider hackers ) and its not that easy.
i have tried using ~ Under Microcrap Vista platform
media monkey, dvdfab, philips songbird, media converter, ojosoft video convertor, rzvideo convertor, media convertor 2.5 , video downloader,Arcsoft Connect, Arcsoft media converter, Oxelon media converter
Handbrake , sinthgunt (and a few other LINUX based softies) and the list goes on and on .
the player is labeled as Plays .MP4 . It should play them. it does not read .avi mp4,wmv and the list goes on.
the philips device manager doesn't even recognize the player (although the correct driver is installed) before you waste your time trying to add movies and downloading software
(spend the money and buy a better MP3 player) i bought this for my 2 - 5 yr old daughters, and i think all they are gonna get is 4 gigs of music. ITS REALLY NOT WORTH THE TIME OR EFFORT. buy a portable dvd player ( if you need to watch movies that bad )

I cant seem to be able to use my media converter for philips.I instaled it from my philips GoGear VIBE disk and it says I have to download alot of other stuf with it.

Ok, firstly, media converter is for video files only. For music use Windows media player or you can simply drag and drop files to your music folder under your gogear device.

Also videos downloaded directly from the internet may not work properly on the player. You have to first convert them into a format that is suitable to the player using Philips media converter.

Download the Philips Media Converter software. Make sure corresponding Codec for playing videos is installed before downloading. The codecs are required to play videos on your player. To download Codec, you can:
1. Go to www.download.com/windows
2. Search for "directshow codec pack"
3. Download and install one of the codec packs from the list of results

Now to download video (suppose from youtube), connect your player to the PC and click the icon "Internet video downloader" at your desktop.
Open the website where your desired video clip locates. Move the cursor over the video you want to download until you see the Download icon. Double click on the icon to enable download.

After downloading, the Media Converter for Philips will then start to convert the video to the format that suits your player. If your player is connected to the PC, the video will be transferred to the player automatically.

Philips 2GB Go Gear wont upload vidoe

You have to use the Philips (Arcsoft) Media Converter to convert/transfer videos. If the converter is not recognizing a specific video type - FLV, for instance - download a free program called Riva FLV Encoder and convert the videos to AVI format first. Then the Philips Media Converter will recognize them.

The Philips Media Converter is not capable of converting an entire DVD - you will have to acquire video editing software, and then break up the DVD files into 15-minute chunks, and then convert each chunk.

If you are getting a codec error, do a google search for free video codecs - they are out there. Windows Codec Pack and downloading the latest version of quicktime will give you most of these needed codecs.

This player is not capable of playing copyright-protected videos - so don't even bother with them.

Additional information is available both from Philips website and from Arcsoft's website.

You have to install the Philips (Arcsoft) Media Converter that came with the installation CD - if you have lost the CD, you can actually get the new, upgraded Media Converter from www.usasupport.philips.com. The Media Converter can't handle full-length movies - it is more for shorter, You-Tube style videos. If the Media Converter doesn't recognize your videos, first get a free FLV codec online. If it still does not recognize the videos, download Riva FLV Encoder and convert any non-recognized video to AVI format. Then the Philips Media Converter will recognize the video, and you can run it through the converter. The Philips website also has a link to the full user guide which explains some of this, if you have lost the user manual.

Many problems in using the FM37 media player. I wish I had bought the next Philips up from the 2GB model I have. At least they 100% know how to develop decent software, even a child could use. Using any...

I did solve the problems with the LG FM37 media player. After the download of the LG FM37 firmware to the latest version 2.20EN, the device kept mentioning "download & press record". As nearly every function is controlled by touching the screen, I pressed where it said "record" in the message. Of course to no avail. Then I though perhaps it is suggesting the voice record button on the side of the device, and when pressed the device did it's thing and transformed to version 2.20. When I turned the device on, all the files had become question marks, and nothing functioned. In fact I could not turn it off. So, **** the reset/microphone hole with a needle, I decided the best thing to do was to format the thing from the settings selections. Prior to the re-format, the device kept mentioning "error code 9001". That disappeared once the device was re-formatted. And that did the trick, once the re-format was done, there were no files, for sure, - but the first video a Donald Duck cartoon from Youtube was successfully downloaded. Previously I had been using a free on line video converter to convert the Youtube FLV to AVI - which is what the FM37 converter changes files to, then I would run that through the FM37 LG converter to size for the device. But it seems happier to have the FLV converted to WMV. I use the free "Any Video Converter", then to run that through the LG media converter, which it transforms to AVI. Since the re-format of the device and the conversion thing, the videos have all neen synchronised normally. I haven't solved the "Library" issue on the LG Media Converter, which still thinks there are a lot of files in the Library, which are no longer on the device. There is no delete facility, - crazy. But Windows media does allow you remove files from the device, but if set to automatic synchro, Media Player annoyingly reinstalles them in the device. Change Windows Media player to manual operation, to stop that. I don't know what changes firmware version 2.20EN made, but one useful thing is a "trash bin" icon at the top of file contents (videos in this instance). You can click on the file you wish to delete, then the trash can to delete it there and then. Useful for files you downloaded to the device without converting, for instance. However, it seems the LG Media Centre *will allow only an AVI file through (without further processing), but if not converted, the device itself will just show an error message and play the next video. The Philip's "Go Gear" Media Centre would *not allow you to download incorrect files. I like the way the LG plays all the video files one after the other, without intervention, as does the Philips (which can also repeat). That is the main reason I didn't buy Creative Zen, as one always has to return to the menu to selct the next video.
