I have a D-link model DIR-628 and I want to use it for direct my wireless printer, the printer setup ask me for the WAP passphrase to end configuration but I don"t have it. How can I get it?

The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the wireless printer, or laptops or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the wireless printer, laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

I need the code to connect my laptop to my wireless router to use the internet

You need to configure the "wireless" settings within the router:
* set an SSID
* set an encryption-level --- use 'WAP'
* set a password.

Then, use those settings on the wireless-adapter on your laptop, to connect to the router.

Where do I find my WEP key

To access the web-based utility, launch the web browser on
your computer (INTERNET EXPLORER), and enter the Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field/bar. Then, press Enter. A password request screen will appear. Leave the User name field blank then default password admin. (You can set a new password from the Administration tab’s Management screen.) Click OK to continue.
The Internet Setup section configures the Router to your Internet connection. Most of this information can be obtained through your ISP/ your internet provider. Internet Connection Type Select the type of Internet connection your ISP provides from the drop-down menu. By default, the Router’s Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP, which should be kept only if your ISP supports DHCP or you are connecting through a dynamic IP address. 68be046.jpg IMPORTANT: If you are using WEP encryption, always remember that each device in your wireless network MUST use the same WEP your wireless network will not function properly.
WEP Encryption Select a level of WEP encryption, 64 bits
10 hex digits or 128 bits 26 hex digits. The default is
64 bits 10 hex digits.
Passphrase Enter a Passphrase to automatically generate WEP keys. Then click Generate.
Key 1-4 If you did not enter a Passphrase, enter the WEP key(s) manually.
Click Save Settings to apply your change

How to get into my netgears properties so i can change my wap key

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings (under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the router's wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new Password and click apply. You will then have to use the same Password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

How do I secure my wi fi so my neighbors cannot use it

There are three things you can do. Now, I am assuming you can log onto your router and work your way through the setup to make these changes. Also keep in mind that as you change these settings, you should be wired into the router. If you are using the wireless connection to make these changes, then everytime you adjust something, you'll need to make the change on your computer to re-establish the wireless connection. Believe me, wired is much easier.
1. You can "Hide" the SSID, meaning that when others go looking for Wireless signals to connect to, they cannot see yours. It is usually refered to as "Broadcasting".
2. Use a passphrase authentication Key. WEP, WPA or WPA2. These are in order of security level. WEP is the weakest, WPA2 is the strongest. You will need a Passphrase key that the WAP knows and your computer knows that will be used to establish comm. You will need this passphrase when setting up every computer to the WAP, make sure it's easy for you to remember. Don't ask me to tell you what the abbreviations mean; WPA2 / PSK / TKIP. When in doubt, use those selections.
3. Only allow a certain # of DHCP users and use the MAC table to assign designated IP's to your computers. I have mine set up to only give out IP addresses to 5 devices, and the three devices I always use are always given the same IP, so the router designated those IP's only for those devices. With 5 available and I have three devices, that leaves 2 IP's for visitors who come over to visit that I allow to jump on. Of course you can just give only the number of devices you have at home to make sure there is no chance of a hop on.

Using these tool should keep you secure.

How do i find the security key or passphrase for network?

Legally, you don't. Routers have a password reset method to log into them, then you can check out / change the password for the network.
Assuming you're talking about a wireless network, it depends on the encryption. WEP encryptions can be cracked with injection soft/hardware... I know there are a couple of apps that do that in linux. For WAP encryption, good luck. :)

Have AT&T 2WIRE849 modem. Need WPA Key Code (alpha only encryption) for notebook PC. How do I secure WPA Key Code for modem service

The WEP and WAP key is configured in the wireless router settings, you create the WAP encryption key and use this key to configure the wireless card in your computer.
WEP is not a very strong encryption key compared with WAP and WAP2, I suggest you use WAP2 if possible. You can create the encryption key with alpha and or numeric keys, if you want to use words or phrases to create the encryption key then use the PASSPHRASE.

Cannot connect my lap tp to the internet via my d link router on my desk top

Please indicate which is your issue.

Is your issue with the router's administrative password to used to configure the router?

Please confirm your router's manufacturer and model number.

IF not go to Wireless Configuration

If the router needs to be reset (because of an unknown password) do you know the proper settings to reconfigure the router? If not or even if unsure please provide your Internet Service Provider's name so we can get accurate instructions before proceeding any further on this password issue.

Wireless Configuration

Is your issue with the passphrase/password for a wireless adapter to access a secured wireless network using either WEP or WAP encryption?

Do you have another wireless computer that works? -- you may be able to find the passphrase in the configuration of that machine's wireless adapter avoiding the need to have the administrators password for the router for the time being.
