Question about Denon AVR-587

1 Answer

I have a Denon AVR-587. It has worked fine for 2-3 years, but ever since I tried to connect it to a different set of speakers, it cuts out after a few minutes and I hear this loud clicking sound coming from the receiver as the sound cuts in and out.

There is a short either on the speaker wires to the speakers or the speakers are defective (some sort of a short or too low of resistance). Lastly, check to see if a stray strand of wire is not touch the left and right terminals. Any short in the network (wire, lack of insulation, staple, screw, etc. ) will cause the system to clip.

Assuming you mean a Denon AVR 587,
1. Turn the unit off.
2. Press and hold Speaker A and B buttons at the same time.
3. Still holding Speaker A and B buttons, press the Power button to turn the unit on.
4. The display should flash on and off at 1 second intervals.
5. Release the Speaker A and B buttons.

Make sure that the volume is not muted or too low on the TV...the TV volume output to your receiver will be performing the function of a pre-amp to your receiver. Then select the appropriate input on the receiver that you have the TV audio connected to.

Double check your inputs on the denon some are assignable, Check cables for looseness hdmi cables are prone to this since they are digital. make sure tv is on the right input and if it is try changing it to a different input "sometimes inputs/outputs go bad"

Denon AVR-1403/483One of the speakers when connected trips the units power off.
Disconnected it and it works OK without that channel. Connected a different speaker and wire to that channel and it does the same, trips power off. It's acting like a when two wires are shorted. This is not the case as I have tried different wires and speaker. Not sure whats going on. Presently running system without that channel. Hope someone has an idea.
