Memory card will not format

I put a new card in and it goes through the cycle of indicating a need to format, you will lose all data...continue...and then back to the same place of needing to format. I have tried sliding the switch back and forth, re-seating the card, power on/off. Could the card just be bad?

Good question about card size-camera proably supports up to 2gb only-try someone elses card and if it goes in and works fine assume you have a bad card-if not stick to 1 or 2 gb only and use a good brand like sandisk or pny only

Can't format a new DS memory card. Tried different cards. I hit continue, but it goes back to screen and says needs formatting. What can I do now?

This could indicate that the card capacity exceeds that with which the camera can cope. You've not said which make & model of camera you have, but the max card capacity should be in the manual. Alternatively, you may need to contact the manufacturer to enquire. If this is the case, it is possible that a firmware upgrade may cure the problem. Are you able to format the card in your computer ? If you are, it would indicate that this is not a card issue.

Can't get to set up menu with my new memory card in camera to set it up to use the memory card instead of the internal memory. Camera keeps saying memory card needs formatted-continue or cancel-I go to...

1. with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory.
2. insert the card and do the "format" thing again from the menu as you just did for the internal memory.

Try this tool which you can download clicking here.

It can solve your formatting problem.

- Download the file.
- Plug your memory card into your PC.
- Run the "exe" file that you downloaded.
- On the program menu select your device (memory card).
- Select FAT32 as file system.
- You may give a valid volume label.

Was OK, but now memory card requires formatting? Kodak Easy Share C-530. I tried several times to put in new memory card, but it always says it needs reformatting and when i try "continue" it then goes to:...

She is not arguing with the camera. Sheesh. When she says she hits "continue" she is talking about continue for the camera to format the card. But instead of formating the card it says filesystem error e00100. The camera will NOT format the card. I have the same problem. I can format the card on the computer, but again the camera says it can not read the card and needs to format. You choose to format, and it says filesystem error e00100. My card is brand new. So I used cards I have owned for while and used in other cameras. Same thing happens. I tried 4 different cards. A 4gb SDHC, thought that format was not compatible so switched to a regular SD 2gb. Same thing happened. Also tried Standard SD 16mb & 128 mb. All do the same thing.

Digital camara and memory card

Basically picture files in memory card have corrupt data that's why computer doesn't recognize it.
HP recommends following action...
Close the HP Image Zone or HP Photosmart Software, disconnect the camera from the computer, and reset the camera. (can see this at HP Support)
2nd option is to find some memory card data recovery software on internet and use it to correct data files in memory card.
Thank you.
