I have a Ruud model # UGPL-10EBRMR 2 stage natural gas furnace. When the thermostat kicks on the initial stage (stage 1) the blower comes on but the ignitor never functions. I can manually push the thermostat up 3-4 degrees (which engages stage 2) and the function lights and cycles normally. Any assistance is appreciated.

SOURCE: Ruud achiever 90 plus gas furnace

I have 2 Ruud Achiever 90 Plus UGRK's. Units were install in 2004. One unit flames' out after ignition just prior to the fan kicking in. Confirmed gas value is functional by switching valves. Check wire connections. Could it be the remote sensor or another 24 volt sensor at the IFC that locks out the gas valve?

SOURCE: Clunk noise Ruud Furnace

I had the same problem, the motor shaft and bearings were going bad. There was about 3/16" travel on the shaft that the blower attaches to. I replaced the motor myself and it runs nice and quiet. I have had that noise that you describe for over 8 years, but it got real noisy about a week ago. I talked to the maintance department about it where I work and they said the motor bearings were probably going bad. They were right, I took the motor out of the furnace and they took it to a parts store and got me a new one $270.00 for it. It is a special motor due to the fact that the frame mounts bolt directly onto the motor housing. Make sure if you do this job yourself that you take the motor to the parts store so that they can match it up. The guy at the store told our maintance man if it didn't require the bolt holes in the motor housing it would have been $100.00 cheaper.

SOURCE: Ruud Silhouette II Fails to Ignite

sounds like you have bad flame sensor or the sensor is in a bad postition. To get eliminate the lockout turn the power off to the unit and back on again. Look at the circuit board light and see what the troubleshooting code is.

SOURCE: Hi, I have a ruud silhouette II furnace. The

Sounds like a flame rod issue or the flame is not getting to it in time. The flame rod is located either far right or far left in the burner box and has only one wire going to it. It should be in line with the flame on a burner. The computer allows only a second or two for the all burners to lite and to get to the flame rod. Check the flame travel from burner to burner. You may have to clean the burners, the flame tray to each burner and the flame rod. Also check any electrical connection at the flame rod, circuit board and the grounds to the furnace cabinet.

My heat is coming out cool. How long does it take until I feel it?

If it is an electric furnace, the heat sequencers usually take 45 seconds to possibly 1 1/2 minutes to fully stage on. This depends on how many elements you have. Of course, once they stage on, one or more elements COULD be burnt out.

If its a gas furnace over ten/twelve years old, the thermally activated control should start the blower at approximately 140 degrees. That usually occurs within one or two minutes of main gas opening.

If its a gas furnace that's relatively new, the blower comes on through a circuit board after a call for heat is initiated and could run and blow cold air even if the main gas flame is in flame failure.

Can't get the gas furnace to heat.

All York/JCI thermostats made by Venstar

The setup is probably incomplete. Did you configure the thermostat for a 2 stage heat pump? The heat pump should have a thermostat wire connected to R, C, Y1, Y2, and O, that makes 5 wires. I suspect you are only using first stage compression and or first stage blower speed.

How do I troubleshoot a goodman 2 stage that always starts at high stage

It wouldn't be stuck if that's the case the valve would never shut off. Sometimes those 2 stage heat thermostats stats call for 2nd stage if the room temp drops more than 2 degrees. Easiest way to check is take the w2 wire off of the tstat and try a call for heat. If the furnace kicks on both 1& 2 stages then its either your wiring on the fan board or a dip switch setting. If it kicks on 1stage then it's your thermostat.

Bryant programmable thermostat doesnt keep the temp have to put it on fan instead of auto

My guess is that you have gas heat. If this is the case, sounds to me like your main control board or depending on age of furnace, fan controller is not working. With gas furnaces, it utilizes 2 fan speeds. High for cooling, & Low for heating. Your thermostat only controls the High speed - switches when you turn your fan on & when there is a call for cooling. The only other thing I can think of is it is possible that the Low speed windings on the blower motor are open causing it to not turn on. Most motors have 3 to 4 speeds & only 2 are used. Switch the heat motor wires in the furnace (on the control board) with one that is on a spare terminal.

Have you checked to make sure that all of the supply registers are open, the air filter is clean and nothing is blocking the return air grill?
It almost sounds like you could be cycling on a limit switch.
Usually on gas furnaces, the blower is controled by the onboard controls, in the cooling mode the thermostat will control the blower.
I would be looking past the thermostat, at the furnace it self.
I hope you find this helpful. If you continue to experience problems, please let us know and we will dig deeper. :)

Ruud heater will not light consistently

Your furnace is going into a lockout condition, cycling the power resets the circuit board and it starts over. I will need to know approximate age and model of your furnace, it sounds like you have need to clean the flame sensor rod. However i need to know what i am working with.
