tube is shot? What exactly is the tube and who's got one for me for the cheap?Write up on service procedure would be cool, diagrams anything helps. THANKS

  • par sims Nov 11, 2010

Its the main componet of the tv i was sayin that the tube is not goin to be cheap anywhere you go thats why fixing it may be more than its worth? Of course thats my opinion just getting on the net just typing in color tube for your type of tv may turn up something it may be worth a shot.

Tv says fan 2 going out ! Picture is starting to fad away!

Hello,

If the picture faded away on the order of 10-20 seconds (and if it comes back, also comes up to full brightness in same time frame - possibly with the persuasion of some careful whacking) AND with NO other significant changes such as size, focus, etc., then take a look in the back of the tube for the filament to be lit - the orange glow near the CRT socket. If there is none, then you probably have a bad solder connection on the circuit board on the neck of the CRT. Look for fine cracks around pins on that board. Try prodding it with an insulating stick to see if the picture comes back. Resolder if necessary. Dirty or corroded CRT pins/socket contacts can also do this - remove, inspect, clean, and replace the neck board. It is probably not a bad CRT as the filaments are usually wired in parallel and all would not likely go bad at the same time.

However, if only a single color fades in and out, then a bad connection inside the CRT is a distinct possibility - look for only one of the filament's glow to be coming and going. This is probably not worth fixing.

If the picture faded away with other symptoms, then there is probably a fault in the video amplifier/output one of its power supplies - still probably a loose connection if you are able to get it back by whacking.
Good luck

When initially powered up the picture is normal after a few minutes the picture fades and exhibits curvature along the edges. The picture also no longer fills the screen to the edge. If it gets warm...

Power off after warming up and picture fading problem:

CHECK C2B1 100 UFD 16V OFF PIN 2 IC202 ON THE MAIN PCB.

BTW, on most Hitachi circuit boards there are small green lights in the circuitry that show if a section of the set is working. Also, there are small protection fuses that look like resistors on the board around the power supply transformer. Check to see if any of those are open and it will lead you to the trouble spot. More than likely on that set it is convergence, vertical, Cold solder in horizontal (FBT or H.Drive xfmr.), cold solder at vert. output, regulator i.c., or audio out. Make sure you check the fuses that go to the convergence amps and look for discoloration on resistors surrounding conv. STKs. These are prone to change in value or burn up. Hope you have some luck solving this, Russmann.

Arc or hump on bottom left of tv and color is faded bad.

Your convergence Ic's have gone bad. Most likely a few small resistors with them. It's really not a job you should try and takle if you haven't done it before. Not a major deal for a svc co.

Dark black spots around the edges of LCD TV

this issue is tape from the edge of the panel falling onto the screen. You will have to remove the cabinet and the panel from the bezel(front cabinet).remove the screws from the lcd outer edge. Take of the tape.Be very carfull of the ribbon cable that goes to the lcd controller and to the lcd screen itself. They break easy. If you do , its over. you will need a new panel. to much money and work. best to leave it alone.I have fixed it several times for people with warrentys. It is just anoying but will not hurt your tv.

32 inch rca color

If this is a 32 inch TV then it is a standard picture tube set. If the colors have suddenly gone out of whack, and the set has not been dropped or had any large magnets near it recently, it means that the degaussing thermistor has come loose from its legs. This is very common in the RCA regular picture tube sets. If you look in the back of the set you will see a large black coil of wire wrapped around the edges of the picture tube, with 2 white wires going down to a jack on the main PC board. Right next to that jack is the degaussing thermistor, which looks like a small silver disc, like a nickle, with 2 legs loosely soldered to its sides. One or both of those legs are probably loose, and if you are very careful you can solder those legs back onto the thermistor. If you do not have experience soldering small parts, allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

TV picture problems

this modle has a bad solder connection near the horizontal o/p transistor that causes the picture to fade in & out.the bad solder connection is on a small coil. the coil winding is typically red. looking at the back of the tv, the flyback has the rid wire going to the top of the tube, the horizontal o/p transistor is to the left & in font of the flyback, it's attached to an aluminum heatsink. directly in font of this heatsink is the coiul you are looking for, it should have a location id of L14XXX or L4XXX if I remember corectly. good luck.
