Question about Intermatic ET70115C Electronic Energy Control Timer Single Circuit SPDT 120

2 Answers

I have an Intermatic ET70115C timer for a school buzzer system. The problem is that the timer is automatically set to adjust for daylight saving time and those times of the year have changed in the past few years. The timer being set for the old intervals needs to be set manually each spring and fall.

ET7015C manual:
http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/et70115c%20-%20english.ashx

This particular timer allows Holiday settings that override regular settings.
Do a word search of the PDF manual for 'holiday' and 'HLDY' and it takes you to the pages that talk about holiday. For example page 8 talks about the Holiday (HLDY) feature

My strategy is to replace the out-of-sync fall-back and spring-forward days with holidays ... and then the holidays can be programmed to meet the correct buzzer time.

Now let me say something. I am not an expert on this particular timer. I wire and test timers, but I do not own this timer. And the manual is a pretty good slog of information. I have not read the whole manual, but you can add a comment and I am here to assist as you go along. I answer questions for free and am glad to help.

I have an Intermatic ET70115C - geno_3245_40.jpgSee this image at Imgur: http://imgur.com/rAXYx

The image on Fixya is too small to see the buttons clearly, but the timer lets you program up to 99 Holidays.
Fall-back is off by 14 days, and Spring-forward is off by 14 days, for a total of 28 days.
The manual says 'review and revise data' on page 12 thru 17

Jason, you may need to replace a chip in the timer. It's all on Intermatic's web site.

See:

http://www.intermatic.com/products/timers/electronic%20time%20switches/next%20generation%20time%20switches.aspx

At the bottom, see the FAQ.

  • What can I do with my Next Generation timer and the new Daylight Savings Time (DST) change? If your Next Generation timer was manufactured before May 2002 you will have to disable the DST feature and manually change the time in the spring and fall. If your timer was manufactured between May 2002 and November 2006 there is a DST upgrade kit available to replace the EEPROM chip with the 2007 DST dates. Keep in mind that 2007 is a test year and the dates may revert back to the old dates next year. Be sure to retain the chip the kit replaces in case you need to reinstall it. If your timer was manufactured since November 2006 it has the 2007 dates already installed. If the dates revert back in 2008 you will have to change the chip next year.

How can I set the time zone?

The DST is only based on GMT.

When daylight saving time (summer time) begins
The following models employ the Automatic Daylight Saving Time/Summer Time adjustment. The DST indicator in the display appears in the display at the beginning of the daylight saving time (summer time), and disappears at the end of it. Automatic DST/Summer Time adjustment is based on GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
• Summer time begins at: 1:00 AM on the final Sunday of March.
• Standard time begins at: 2:00 AM on the final Sunday of October

To cancel the Automatic DST/ Summer Time adjustment and
to set DST display manually
The Automatic DST/Summer Time adjustment can be cancelled.
Press and hold DST for more than 3 seconds while the clock is displayed.
A beep sounds, and "Aut t OFF" appears in the display to show that the Automatic DST/Summer Time adjustment is cancelled. The display returns to the clock.
Notes

Summer Time adjustment is activated. The display returns to the clock.

Timer prompts user through the set-up and programming.
The manual does not show exact steps.
Example programming on page 17 of manual does not show how to set timer for 'fixed' 24-hour operation, with specific on-off set times

Does timer 15071 automatically adjust for changing daylight length in addition to adjusting for daylight savings time?

GE 15071 sold at Home Depot and on-line has feature that adjusts for daylight savings time.
GE 15086 does not offer automatic adjustment for DST
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15071

Daylight savings time (DST) is not same as dawn-to-dusk astronomical timer.
GE 15071 and 15086 single-pole timers do not have dawn to dusk astronomical feature.

For single-pole dusk-dawn astronomical with DST, Lowes sells Utilitec-0192773
http://waterheatertimer.org/Program-wire-Utilitec-0192773.html

For 3-way switching, 7-day DST -or- dawn-dusk astronomical:

Looking for a timer to turn a 120volt 2amp water pump on for 1min 2 times aday that will last for more than 3 years please help

1) You need 120V timer to control 2 amp water pump.
V x A = watts so 120V x 2amp = 240 watt
754 watts per HP divided by 240W = 1/3 HP horsepower.

2) To get 1 minute time periods, you need electronic timer.
Most electronic timers have minimum 1 minute set time.
Same schedule each day, you can use 356-day, 7-day or 24-hour electronic timer.

3) To have electronic timer last longer than 3 years you need a clean circuit and expensive timer.
Use circuit analyzer to check circuit. Hire electrician to check circuit and replace pump if necessary to make sure timer will last as long as possible.

4) Intermatic ET70115C should last for many years. Battery is replaced every 8 years.

ET70115C $379

5) You posted under EH10 water heater timer, which is inexpensive water heater timer rated for 1HP. You can't expect inexpensive timer to last as long when using a motor, although 1/3 HP is lightweight motor.

6) You can buy five EH10's for same price as one ET70115C.

7) List of ordinary electronic timers, each with slightly different features

My son lost the instruction manual for our DT 500 CH self-adjusting timer made by INTERMATIC INCORPORATED, and we can't even figure out how to turn it on, let alone program it. Any help would be great!...

I Just downloaded the pdf for the same model. The link to Intermatic is http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/dt500ch.ashx

If that doesn't work then google Intermatic DT500CH pdf and select the return from Intermatic. It's a good timer but not intuitive. I had to look up the manual just to change from daylight savings time.

Turning daylight saving time OFF

If DST is *already* set to "on" when you reset the time zone to Z-07 (Hawaii), my very recent experience is that the time *still gets adjusted back* by one hour.  Now that daylight savings time is over (at least according to the clock's pre-programmed and outdated schedule) I'm hoping that setting the time zone to Z-07 (Hawaii) will completely cancel the automatic time changes from now on.  Otherwise, I need to purchase another clock, and it won't be a Timex.
