My Linksys router decided to reset itself and I am unable to figure out how to reconfigure it. I'm trying to open a browser using this IP address: 192.168.1.102, however nothing happens when I do that.

If your are sure that it was reset, then probably its IP could have changed to the default value. for Linksys routers, the defult normally is 192.168.1.1 . but otherwise it may vary depending on your specific model. also, On older LinkSys routers, the username is set to blank and the password is set to "admin" (without the quotes). On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin".
check in its manual or post model here and I assist you further.

IP Address Errors

It sounds like you may be having IP address conflicts. Many Xbox users have a fixed IP address set in their unit and then have a Port Forwarding done in the router to provide faster play. If you reset the router all this is lost. Then what can happen is that the router will assign a device the reserved IP address of the Xbox. When you turn the Xbox on, then it cannot connect as there is another device already assigned that address. Reconfiguration is required to prevent IP conflicts.

Need to reconfigure Linksys Wireless Router

Jim,

There are a few steps that we can try. If you want to email me at doingitright@blueskyit.ca for further instruction then that's fine. Try the following first:

I will assume you have Windows XP:

1. Click Start button.
2. Click Run.
3. Type in cmd and then hit enter.
4. Type in ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter.
5. Type in ipconfig and hit enter. This should show you a few IP addresses.
6. If you are connecting to the router okay, you should see a gateway address listed. Write that down. Keep the command window open for now.
7. Go to your desktop and open a browser window. Type in the gateway IP address. This should bring up a sign on to the Linksys. If it doesn't, then there's an issue between your PC and the router.
8. Assuming it does bring up the Linksys then sign on to it. Look for an area that will show you devices connected to the router. Do you see the printer? It may show you a MAC address for the computer and the printer with IP address beside it. It may be located under the wireless area.
9. If it does show printer info then write down the IP address. If it doesn't show info then it's possible that the printer isn't configured properly.
10. Log out of the router window.
11. Bring up the command prompt again and try pinging the IP address of the printer (if you have it from the router). If it replies then you should reboot your computer and try printing again. If it doesn't reply then chances are the printer itself isn't installed on the right port.
12. You can check port connection on the printer by going to your printer folder, look at the properties and see what port it's using....for example: if you had it using USB prior to wireless then you want to change it to use the IP address.

There are a few more steps to try but it depends on what happens to this point. Another thing to check is on the printer device itself - go into the network setup which should be under the settings menu somewhere...sorry not sure of the Lexmark model you have. Make sure that the IP address info is listing properly. You can try printing a config page directly from the device as well to show you what IP its using....

Let me know if there's anything further required. If you email me directly then I can continue to help, otherwise someone else may grab this issue to assist further.

Thanks.

I forget my password of linksys server ?

Are you speaking about the password of the router or the password of the wireless network ?
If you don't know the password of the router , then you will need to reset the router and use the default password of the router.
Once you reset the router, you will need to reconfigure it.
If you are looking for the wireless password, you can find it on the set up page of the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router.

Trying to reconfigure the router and a message comes up "unable to connect to router" I've done all the steps even reset to factory settings.

If you've tried reseting it, then the IP address is probably one of the following:

192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1

If you know how, try to ping the router via command prompt. You can do this by going to:

Start Menu>Run
then type
cmd

A black window will appear, try typing:

ping [one of the IP addresses above]

if nothing "replies" then you have a bad connection. If one of them does reply.

Try typing that IP address into the browser address bar to bring up the routers web interface.

If it's a linksys, try this for the username and password

Username: admin
Password: admin

for Netgear:

Username: admin
Password: password

I forgot my password

If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.

To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.

Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and reconfigure it again.

To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.

LinkSys Default Password

On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

Once you are past the login screen, you are able to reconfigure the LinkSys router.

Used router, so the wireless is already setup with a newtork password. is there a way to reset the network password or setup? the friend who gave me the router is no longer in the country, and so I cannot...

Hi,

Most LinkSys Routers do have a master reset. It is a small recessed button normally at the rear of the unit between one of the antennas and the WAN/Internet port. For a full reset, you need to press this for more than 10 seconds. Of course doing a full hard reset reverts the unit back to factory default.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
