Hello
You are seeing vertical retrace lines on the top of your TV screen.
There are mainly three causes for it. I don't know the age of your TV. The first cause is due to the supply voltage lack to the video output state. You can check it on the picture tube base card. You haven't mentioned about the diamension of your TV screen. So it can be say as a guess. If your TV is 27", the voltage mantioned above will come to about 245VDC. If there is a great voltage loss, check the smoothing capacitor to that supply, will normally come to the value of 10MFD 450V.
The second one is, capacitor related to the vertical output stage of your tv. It is in the circuit board. Normally these capacitors are situated in an area, which will get hot during working. As s result, there is a chance to the value change of their capacitance. It is best to replace all of them, as it may not cost too much. Before desoldering it out, mark the value of each capacitor is best. Normally replacing the filter capacitor 3300MFD or so,to the power supply to the vertical output Ic will solve this problem.
The third is related with the vertical output Ic itself. Just check all the soldering points in the vertical output section of your tv board. Anyway, resoder all suspected soderings by applying a little more solder, as bad solderings to the legs of the Ic or some other components also may the cause. OK.

The specific info for my TV is a 2006 Toshiba model 56232D46, 32" CRT, digital, Possibly the last CRT TV built by Toshiba. I have no schematic to work with so if you have an online source for a manual and drawing it would be appreciated. The pictuire is Brite and clear except for horizontal lines at top of screen. There are no external adjustmens for horz.. or vertical adjustments like the old tube type TV's. I thank you for the info you already have provided, maybe this more specific info will help. John

    Hello
There is no need for a detailed schematic diagram for this, as you are aware in electronics I thinks. Just replace the vertical output capacitor, which can be located at the vertical output section of your TV, large in size, up to a value of 1500Mfd 35V or so, and change the filter capacitor to the vertical output supply voltage, which may come to a value of 3300Mfd or so. Just replacing these to capacitors must solve your problem.

We have a 27" MTS Stereo color TV. There are white horizontal lines at the top of the screen. We do have a DVR with Direct TV. How do we fix?

U can't.Only horizontal lines on the top parts of the tv screen or the lower parts of the picture screen.Or very light horizontal lines mix in with the tv screen pictures. The "CRT" the picture tube is slowly dying of old age.Quicker than they supose to.The late 90" these problems case show up alot more in standard tvs using CRT tube.Because the CRT and analog design about to be faze out of the market place. The glass molding and those radiation matrials, they used to make those "CRT" picture tube materials, not as good as before.

Horizontal white lines 27A43.

You have some bad capacitors. They are located very near and next to your vertical IC. I would guess you would have to replace maybe four of these! Thanks for asking!

Horizontal line or seam going from bottom to top of screen

Sounds like you have AC leakage somewhere. If you have cable TV, disconnect it from the TV and see if the line dissapears. If it does then most likely it is a faulty cable box or a bad ground on the cable system.

Green screen with almost horizontal zigzag lines

Is good that you hit it and it reacts, very likely you have loose conections in different places but for the distorted picture you need to check the horizontal driver transformer and flyback after that is corrected you need to check the complete chassis for loose conections.Take your time.Good luck.
