This could be caused by hard water depending on where you live. Make sure you always use Jet Dry, run the hot water on your kitchen faucet for a few minutes before you start the dishwasher and if that doesnt work there are a few different dishwasher cleaning products out there. This one works good: http://www.finishdishwashing.com/product-finish-jet-dry-dishwasher-cleaner.php.

Soap remains on the dishes after the wash cycle is complete.

Check that the holes in the spray arms haven't blocked up and the filters in the bottom are clean. The arms may not be rotating. To check this, when the machine is washing, open the door, turn all the spray arms to face the same direction, shut the door and leave running for about 30 seconds. Open the door again and look at the position of the spray arms. They should have moved.

i have seen a lot of dishwashers that have this problem if they have a flip open lid for the soap .. often its caused by the top adjustable tray blocking the soap door from opening .. i put a camera inside to figure out what was happening ..in some cases all i had to do was raise the top basket .and make sure the basket is fully back before closing the main door .. it still blocks the soap door but allows it to open far enough to get the detergent washed out .....also i had to avoid putting large items in the corner where the dispenser is located .. they dont block the door but do reduce the water flow that could otherwise get into the cracked open soap door .. i reported this problem to my dealer .. and he stated that he didnt really want to know .. if he knows then he is obligated to do something about it .. which he claims he cant .. i demonstrated the problem on several brands at the store to whoever would listen .. some dishwashers have a sliding or rotating soap door .. those work better .. a few have a cut out in the top basket to clear the soap door .. .. the design of many washers are so similar that you might believe they are all made by the same manufacturer .with the same error in design . many seem to have that problem .. when the door doesnt open properly then the soap may become wet but not desolved .. somtimes it does partially desolve in the rince cycle .. i would think that is a hazzard .. you would have soap residue left on your dishes that you might ingest .. the dishes might look clean however so you may not even know anything was wrong ... letters to the manufacturers got me nowhere .. we struggled with that machine for a year .. we learned the tricks to make it work but during a big party our guests and relatives didnt know that .. there we were ready to serve with all dirty dishes ..after that happend a few times we bought another new dishwasher .. but the one delivered had the same problem .. what frustration .. so we sprung for a really good unit from bosch .. it has a sliding door and works perfectly .. very happy now ..

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

Dish Washer soap does not dispense during wash

You don;t list the make and model number or its aproximate age.
The simpelest cause is switching to an ultra-cheap dry detergent. Recommed you use a name brand powder (like Electrosol or Cascade) Never use gel or tablets, ever.
Check all spray arms for blockages. Now is a good time to remove the filter (non trivial but do-able on most dishwashers.)
Clean empty dishwasher by filling a bowl or large cup with white vinegar and placing it in the dish rack. Run a short cycle with no detergent added. You may need to repeat.
If problems persist, the pump motor is probably failing. Schedule a service call or consider replacement of DW. Good Luck!

Dishwasher leaves soap in dispenser.

Hi Dirty Dish gang.
After having 2 appliance repairmen here, I now have the latest scoop on our dishwasher problems, $200 later!
Los Angeles IS currently having hard water issues. Also, all the new cleaning gels etc. are actually a cause of our dishwasher problems.
So, here is what we need to do:
1. Use Cascade POWDER detergent only.  Make sure is is just "plain" no "scented" or "complete"  or gel, etc. (I have tried a phosphate free powder and gel and this is a cause of our problem as well!) 2. Use Jet Dry in the dispenser (set it to a 2-3 opening) 3. Make sure water is at least 120 degrees 4. Only run dishwasher on "normal" setting.  All others just run it longer, hence causing more water stains. 5. Do not pre-wash dishes! You can knock of chunks with a "non" soapy brush, but don't rinse (the oils actually help to clean the dishes) 6.  Do not wash sponges in dishwasher.
Acid Wash: The repairman just gave my washer an Acid Wash today. It says it is an acid derived from lemon, I got mine from Carters appliance in Torrance, CA for about $19. I am to run a normal cycle with the above mentioned Cascade after this "acid cycle" is finished.
If you are still having problems:
Monthly maintenance: Glass Magic: Buy a box of Glass Magic (near the Cascade)  Use 1 Tbsb in main detergent compartment of dishwasher along with the Cascade, till washer starts working again. White Vinegar: You can run an empty dishwasher with white vinegar once a month.  Fill a bowl with 2 cups vinegar and place on bottom rack.  Then run as a normal cycle...this allows vinegar to disperse slowly.
So far it seems to be working.  Good luck.

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.

Dishsoap stays in soap dispenser

ok, either a spring, trigger prob, on the latch, or a electronic prob. ok so to see if the latch is ok (or not) look closely for soap residue and scum, that may be hindering the latch or spring under. use metho, and warm water to clean this part. secondly go down to a white goods repair place and take your electrical component, button, lights its all one unit, simple unscrew it, i do think you will need a set of torque screws for that tho... anyhow ask the guy to get you a new or second hand one and install it. the timer will run, and the clip will release. good luck!
