I have had this same problem, for about the same amount of time... I cant stand it!! Okay, here is the solution.. Press and hold the Skip button, on the base of the answering machine, for two seconds.. TA DAH!! all better. lol...
I think I found a solution. On my phone model 27996GE3-A, I unplugged the phone for a few seconds, plugged it back in and waited until the display showed the number of messages and then I pressed the "skip" and "review" buttons at the same time and then it announced the the language changed to english. Hope this helps.
On the GE models believe itor not extremely simple: press and hold the "skip" button on the base until desired language is spoken. Had the same problem and after searching the web and being on hold for 45 minutes, I could't believe how easy the answer was!
Just as the other answers that were left...you just have to press the skip button. Just make sure that you press announce on the cradle...not on the phone...then when you hear the voice in Spanish just press and HOLD the skip button until it changes to English. Good Luck
