Question about Dell 1230C Laser Printer

1 Answer

Hi Everyone: I've been getting this same DEV. HOME ERROR, but I have a Dell 1230c Color Laser Printer, which has really worked fine until about a month ago. I contacted Dell and they told me this was not a printer error, but a computer error, possibly with configuration of Windows 7 which came loaded on my new computer. So I contacted Microsoft and one of their technicians has been trying just about everything he knows, including restoring my system back to when I bought it in August and NOTHING helps. So he suspects I go back to Dell and let them know they could be wrong and find out if they know what I can do. If anyone is familiar with this model printer and what I can do to correct it without spending a small fortune for parts, etc. I would appreciate it very much. Thanks, in advance, for your help! Sincerely, Anita (aka bklynbabe)

Before I contacted FixYa, this is all something that a technician from Microsoft and myself have done with little results. However, the last time I reinstalled my printer and the "test page" printed successfully and so for now I just leave my printer on and I don't shut it off. If it's not being used, it seems to go into a "sleep mode" like my computer. So this seems to be some sort of work-around for now, until I go on vacation and don't have a choice but to actually shut off everything. I guess that will be the real test, but I just don't want to take that chance right now :(

Thanks for your help, but I think the bottom line is that Dell has to probably create a new driver for this model printer to prevent this from happening with Windows 7 so your solution was not a new one that hasn't been tried.

This is a software error, not a hardware one, so no parts to buy. This is caused when Windows can't communicate with the printer because the driver is malformed/badly configured.
Uninstall all the drivers related to Dell printer from the computer, and then download (as in Save, not Run) the drivers from here
Once the download is complete make sure to have the printer disconnected, reboot one more time, launch the installer and follow the instructions.
If this doesn't fix it then an update to Windows must have changed something. Do an System Restore to a period before that and then disable the Automatic Update - put it on Notify. Then update one file at a time until you find the one that breaks the driver - uninstall it and set it to Never again to be notified about it.

Yes, apparently the driver is badly written. Sorry, i can't help you with that.

Dell MFP Laser 3115CN Printer Getting an error 016-302

Remove the existing printer and drivers from the PC. Power the PC off (don't just restart) wait a few minutes (or pull the plug for 30 seconds). Reason to pull the cord, you want it to flush any buffers that might still hold printer information.

Reconnect, once on, reinstall the printer from scratch. That should put a stop to the error.

Screen reads no cartridge when there is a full cartridge in the printer

This is a pretty common item, usually for HP printers however I've also seen this with non-HP printers. They REALLY want you to use genuine HP or Dell ink/toner in their printers since they make lots of money on consumables. That being the case, there is a chip on most original (OEM) toner cartridges that tells the printer that its a genuine cartridge. If you purchase aftermarket/remanufactured/3rd party toner to save a few dollars, they frequently don't have these chips, however other than that they work just fine.
If you have purchased a Staples/Office Max or some other non Dell branded toner, that's likely what happened. My suggestion is to live with this minor annoyance and just wait until the print begins to get lighter in color. THAT will be your indication that its about time to change the toner.
If you get this same issue with a new Dell branded toner, then you may want to try to find this chip and use a pencil eraser to carefully clean the electrical contacts on the toner cartridge. That may help the printer read the cartridge chip easier.
Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Samsung CLP-300 'dev. home error'

Dev. Home error can be fixed by stretching out a solenoid spring on the power cord side of the printer. The solenoid acts as a clutch to stop the spinning developer actuator at the right spot.

The problem is that the spring gets weak over time / the cogs round out over time and the solenoid finger is overcome by the spinning cogs, and resulting in selecting the wrong developer.

Open up the right side (power cord side) of the printer (take off top cover, then take off side cover). Then, find a solenoid (little metal square) that touches the white plastic vertical spur gear. Take the spring off the solenoid. Now, put the spring back on - only this time you will attach one anchor point to the middle of the spring as to pre-stretch the spring for more tension.

I have a clp-350n samsung colour printer. Prints B+W images fine. When a colour image is sent to the printer the printer runs and runs and runs but never prints anything. It's as if the imaging belt can't...

There is an "opto coupler" in the main drive gear unit (right ride of machine) which controls the drive to the toner/dev units. If this (or part of the drive) is faulty it will give this error.
