Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

Remove the lower wash arm (1) by turning the nut (4) clockwise (right) lift the arm off, there is a bearing (3) (small thin plastic washer) under the arm, be sure not to loose it. Lift the tab on the back of the feed tube cap (2) and swing it to the right and lift up, this may need a bit of pressure to release it This is for my Whirlpool dishwasher DU1100XTP. I'm putting it back together and can't remember if the plastic washer goes on top or underneath the feed tube cap. Also how do I remove the torx screws from the accumulator?

Thanks for your help. Just to clarify I've added a picture. Does the washer (3) lay on top of 4 or on top of 2. I know you said on top of 2 (the feed tube) but was just double checking because it seems like i took it off of 4 when i took it apart. Thanks again!

Regarding removal of torx screws I am assuming you do have a set of torx screw drivers.

This site is helpful.

Regards the lower wash arm fittings, see this diagram. I am assuming you are referring to item 3 washer.

Hope this helps. Please rate this solution.

There is a nut under the black plastic bezel that needs to be removed. Here is the complete procedure for you to look at. Its possible that your arm isn't adjust at wiper motor...

REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
- Remove the rear wiper arm from the rear wiper motor output shaft. (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL / REAR WIPERS / WASHERS/REAR WIPER ARM - REMOVAL).
- Using a small thin-bladed tool, gently pry at the notch in the base of the rear wiper motor output shaft bezel to unsnap the nut cover from the bezel (REAR WIPER MOTOR OUTPUT SHAFT NUT REMOVE/INSTALL). Be certain to take proper precautions to protect the outer tailgate panel and its paint finish from damage during this procedure.
- Remove the nut that secures the rear wiper motor output shaft to the outer swing gate panel (REAR WIPER MOTOR OUTPUT SHAFT NUT REMOVE/INSTALL).
- Remove the bezel and gasket from the rear wiper motor output shaft.
- Remove the trim panel from the tailgate inner panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/SWING GATE/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL).
- Disconnect the tailgate wire harness connector for the flip-up glass ajar switch from the flip-up glass latch connector receptacle.
- Disconnect the tailgate wire harness connector for the rear wiper motor from the motor connector receptacle (REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVE/INSTALL).
- Loosen the two screws that secure the rear wiper motor mounting bracket to the top of the tailgate inner panel.
- Slide the rear wiper motor and mounting bracket forward far enough to disengage the two mounting screws from the keyed slots in the top of the tailgate inner panel.
- Remove the rear wiper motor and mounting bracket from the tailgate as a unit.

3 - TAILGATE OUTER PANEL
4 - NUT
5 - NUT COVER

What you will need to do is to remove the small plastic cap on the wiper arm by prying it off with a screw driver. Then remove the nut that holds the arm onto the shaft. Then get yourself a battery cable puller (from auto parts store) and pull the arm off of the shaft..

Detergent opener does not dispense detergent during wash cycle. ive tried washing 4 different times and detergent sits undissolved in dispensor. dispensor door does not pop open either when i open door...

Most KitchenAid dishwashers have an adjustable upper rack, since I do not have your model number I cannot advise on specifics but if you move the upper rack to the higher position the dispenser will open a little further.

Also if you are not washing well on the upper rack you may have either a plugged spray arm or sump.

Look at the spray arms close, if the holes are plugged then it will not spray into the dispenser properly.

If you have a tall tub KitchenAid then the sump may need cleaned.

Here are instructions that might help. But not knowing your specific model these instructions may not apply
A plugged up sump can cause a multitude of problems in a dishwasher, it can make the dishwasher not clean as well as it should, make the cycle run longer, it can create noises and redeposit food.

To clean the sump follow the directions below.

- Remove the lower rack

- Remove the lower wash arm (1) by turning the nut (4) clockwise (right) lift the arm off, there is a bearing (3) (small thin plastic washer) under the arm, be sure not to loose it. Lift the tab on the back of the feed tube cap (2) and swing it to the right and lift up, this may need a bit of pressure to release it.
4007bb4.jpg
- Remove the 4 screws (3) from the accumulator (1), lift off the accumulator. Remove 1 screw(7) from the cover (8) this is located down inside of the sump (4) on the left front side. Lift up and remove the cover (8), watch for glass and clean out all the debris from the sump and especially around the the area of the chopper and screen (6) which will be exposed with the cover (8) off. If the screen is blocked with debris that usually means you need a new chopper. it may be broken or loose and not doing its job.

Once clean reassemble and enjoy a dishwasher that cleans the dishes again.

It doesn't drain all of the water out after cycle is complete

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Dishes not getting clean is caused by either a restricted drain, (usually the problem) or larger than usual particulate under the lower wash arm tower.
The restricted drain can manifest itself:
- At the pump outlet, (remove hose and inspect drain port)
- At the air gap at the sink (remove cover by lifting straight up then unscrew the inner cap nut and remove the particulate) NOTE the installed position of the upper cap under the nut as it will only go back together in one position)
- At the Air Gap outlet hose connection (remove hose and inspect plastic tubing)
- At the sink connection. This can be either a direct plumbing connection or a garbage disposal connection. (remove the hose and inspect drain connection.)

As far as the lower wash arm tower
- Remove the lower wash arm.... NOTE the stack up of parts... it only goes together one way!!!!
- Remove the lower wash arm tower screws
- Lift off the lower wash arm tower and clean the screen area.
- Remove the screen and check in the pump impeller area for a broken impeller or damaged pump housing.

I really need the long model number if you need further assistance. The model number will look like this 220.13599000 but the numbers could be something much different. (This example is for Kenmore)

Thanks for choosing FixYa

Open lid, how?

To Access/replace the CCU:

#1

Unplug the Whirlpool Cabrio power cord from the wall outlet. Turn off the water supply to the washing machine. Pull the washer away from the wall so that you can access the screws behind the control console. Remove the hex head screws securing the control console to the washer with a nut driver. The screws are on the lower rear edge of the control console.
#2

Lift the control console up, and rotate the console forward so that the face of the console is resting on the top of the washer. Locate the interface board cable connector to the right of the plastic tube on the back of the console. Pull the end of the connector straight out of the control console. The primary machine control is the box that the plastic tube connects.
#3

Place small pieces of masking tape around the nine wires connecting to the primary machine console. Label the wire locations onto the masking tape with a pencil. Grasp each wire at the connector with your fingers, and pull the wires away from the primary control. Pull the plastic tube out of the primary control.
#4

Locate the nut toward the bottom of the primary control. Remove the nut with a nut driver. Lift the front of the primary control slightly, and slide it down to disengage the retaining clips. Pull the primary control out of the control console. Insert the new primary control into the control console. Slide the primary control up to engage the lower clips. Secure the primary control to the console with the single hex head screw.
#5

Push each of the wire connectors into their respective positions on the primary control until they lock into place. Push the plastic tube hose over the port on the right side of the primary control. Remove the small pieces of masking tape from the wires.
#6

Position the control console back upright on the top of the washer. Secure the control console to the washer with the three hex head retaining screws. Slide the washer back against the wall. Turn on the water supply and plug the washer into the wall outlet.

Bad wiper motor on 1996 dodge grand caravan

According to the Haynes repair manual Chapter 12:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
2. Detach washer hoses, lift the wiper arm covers and mark the wiper arm locations on the pivot shaft for later re-installation. Remove the wiper pivot nut and remove the wiper arms.
3. Remove the cowl cover (from chapter 11)
3a. Remove the wiper arms then remove the screws that hold the lower area of the cowl cover to the wiper module.
3b. Disengage the quarter turn fasteners that hold the outer ends of the cowl cover to the wiper module.
3c. Open the hood and release the wing nuts that hold the front of the cowl cover to the wiper module.
3d. Close the hood but do not latch it. Now remove the outboard screws and lift the cover up enough to get to the washer hose.
3e. Disconnect the washer hose from the right washer nozzle. Close the hood but do not latch it. Lift the cowl cover toward the windshield and off the vehicle.
3f. Installation is the reverse of removal
4.Open the hood. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
5. Disconnect the windshield washer hose from the coupling inside the unit. Disconnect the drain tubes from the bottom of the wiper unit.
6. Remove the wiper unit mounting bolts. (Picture appears to be three (possibly allen head) bolts)
7. Remove wiper unit.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Wiper blade and wiper arm adjustment is measured with the wipers parked; correct adjustment is the lower wiper arm approximately 1.5 inches distance from the cowl cover and the upper arm approximately 2.5 inches from the lower arm. Operate the wiper motor and check that the wiper motor parks when the wiper switch is OFF.

Dishwasher Problem...

You are right. The plastic screw needs to be removed. I have a Quiet Guard 4. My procedure is as follows:
1. Remove baskets. Need to pop off the 'keepers' at the ends of the top slidding shelf supports.
2. Remove bottom washing arm. Unscrew (Gently but firmly) the centre post. Lift arm assembly out.
3. Remove overhead conduit. One screw at back, one at top.= (Philips #2 bit). Rotate whole assembly 45 deg right (Clockwise) and lift off of centre post.
4. Remove centre post (Pull straight up). Remove 4 screws (Star T-20 bit). Lift the whole plastic assembly out. Pop off the screen and clean,
5. Remove cap over cutter/chopper. There is one screw at the left front (Star T-15 bit). Remove screw and cap (Needs some wiggling to free it up). Remove cutter and filter (this is the water blocking problem). It is on a spring loaded pin. Pull the cutter blade foreward and lift the filter disc straight up. Clean thoroughly. I ran a 'quick rinse' cycle with everything out to chean the inside.
Reassemble.
Hope there is enough of a similarity to be helpful.
