Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

When I try to turn on my 19" Element LCD TV, the blue power light comes on bright at first, but then it quickly does down to almost nothing, very dim blue. At this point I can not turn off the TV, either with the remote or the switch on the side of the panel. I'll unplug it from the wall and plug it back in again, and the same thing happens and the TV picture still does not come on. But if I just leave the blue light dim for about 8 minutes (which I should not have to do), I'll hear a very shrill high-pitched whining (winding up higher and higher in pitch) sound, and then the blue light will suddenly get bright again. I'll have to unplug the TV from the wall and plug it right back in, and then press the on/off button on the side of the TV or the remote on/off button, and finally the TV will turn on! But when it finally does turn on I'll see two black and gray vertical stripes running up and down the right side of the TV screen. I recall when I first got the TV about a year ago, there was a distinctive "popping" sound when I turned it on, which is what I believe it is supposed to happen to let me know that something has engaged properly to power it up, after which the TV would turn on picture and sound within one minute. But it no longer gives me that popping sound when I press the on/off button and consiquently does not turn on. Do you know what the problem is and what I can do to fix it myself without paying someone an arm and a leg to repair it? Thank you in advance for any workable advice you can give me. ~ B

There is only one component that can cause this problem. Its the transformers on the power supply board. Something is causing an overload on the circuit and my money would be on capacitor plague. If you are not that good at soldering and stuff it might be a good idea to just swap the power supply board with a replacement. I can help you find one if that is your choice.

Sounds like power supply has fried, take to TV repairman or since its an Element just buy a new one that is not an Element. Get a LCD, LG is good.

My 32" Element LCD tv is broken. One night I was watching tv and all teh sudden there was blue, red and yellow lines running horizontally across teh screen, audio was fine. I turned it off and unplugged...

Yes!
It has suffered a breakdown in the power supply and the damage has also spread as far as the sustain boards that control video and convergence. This is not a DIY and the repair for parts is $300 + labour. However, get a few quotes. At least a 32 in is a little more transportable than a 6' model

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Element tv.. model # ELCHS261 stopped working

My Element ELCHS261 will not turn on at all. The only thing it does is the red light will turn to blue but no sound and no picture. My troubleshooting items have been changed the batteries in the remote then I unpluged the power for for 30 minutes and still nothing.
