Your pressure switch stops the water and allows it to start the next cycle. It's a switch either in the control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which goes down between the inner and outer tub. As the water level increases the air in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to "make the switch" stopping the water from filling. This tube can get clogged and the switch won't work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.

My husband installed a belt in our Maytag washer model #sav205daww. when I went to use it it filled with water and didn't stop, it overflowed. Any ideas what might be wrong?

He could have pulled the small hose off that connects to the water level switch.
Or sediment could have shifted when he tilted the tub. Check that hose for secure connection and blow threw it to move the sediment and then pump out the water so that the pressure can build once again from the water level switch down to the base of the tub. themobilian_2693.jpg

The washer overflowed as it was filling up, as if it didn't know when to stop, never agitated, just started leaking everywhere all over the floor!!

Your overflow pressure switch did not work properly either because it is faulty or the hose to it is disconnected. I would start by checking the hose connection. The hose gos from the outside of the tub up to the control panel where the switch is located.

The washing machine drum keeps on filling up with cold water, we have to keep on emptying it cause it overflows. door won't close either.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

This is symptomatic of a malfunctioning cold water control valve, particularly if it happens with POWER OFF.

Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call to confirm that it is not something else ;-0(
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Top loader washer won't fill with water

Either the water level sensor is faulty or the selector switch is bad.

Servicing the Water Level Control Switch

This is another control panel switch, usually located next to the temperature switch. There is a small hose connected to this switch, and sometimes this hose becomes loose and falls off the connection. When this happens, the water in the tub usually overflows. To solve this problem, cut about 1/2 inch off the end of the hose and use a push fit to reconnect it to the switch.

The switch itself can also malfunction, resulting in tub overflow and other water-level trouble in the tub. If you suspect this switch is faulty, remove it by backing out the screws holding it in place. Take it to a professional service person for testing. If the switch is faulty, replace it with a new one of the same size and type. Connect the new switch the same way the old one was connected.
