Sometimes the red light coming on is a sign that your radio is transmitting. On my radio if I get two red lights then I have a bad match and I check it out to make sure it isn't to off but as long as you are under a 3 talk all you want but you should get the match down to at least 1.5:1

It is important to tune your CB radio antenna to the proper length. The length must exactly match the wavelength of the frequency you transmit on. Or be really really close.

All Cb antenna's have a way to adjust the length of the antenna. If it's a mag mount, the metal whip can be slid in and out of a metal collar. Usually a set screw. If its a fiberglass whip, the way to tune it is on top. It either has a small metal rod with a set screw to adjust the length, or it threads in and out to adjust length.

Either type you have it will need to be adjusted for proper length. Here is how to tune the antenna to lowest SWR.

Some radios have a built in SWR meter. Some do not. If yours doesn't have an SWR meter, then you have to use an external SWR meter. Radio shack carries one, and you can find them cheap on ebay.

If you have a built in SWR meter or external, the procedure is the same:

1. Turn the radio to CH 20.(This is the center of the band.)
2. Switch the meter switch to CAL. (CAL stand for calibrate.
3. Key the radio. (Important. Do not talk while keying the radio.)
4. turn the CAL knob up until the meter hits the CAL mark.
5. Now while still keying the radio flip the meter switch to SWR.

Where the meter falls after that point is you SWR reading. If its above 3, that is real bad. 2 is not gonna kill your radio but its not the greatest. 1.5 and under is a good place to be, but the lower the better.

If your SWR is high, Here is how to find out if your antenna is too long or too short.

1. Turn to CH 1
2. Repeat SWR procedure. You must calibrate every time you do it.
3. Remember the SWR reading.
4. Turn to CH 40.
5. Again repeat SWR procedure.
6. Compare the reading between CH 1 and CH 40.

Now if the SWR is higher on channel 1 then channel 40 your antenna is too short. You must make it longer.

If the SWR is longer on channel 40 then on channel 1, then the antenna is too long, you need to make it shorter.

Make height adjustments about an eight inch at a time, and take reading each time.

once the SWR is significantly lower and the reading on channel 1 and 40 are about the same, you a about matched. At this point turn the radio to the center of the band, channel 20 and take an SWR reading.

You should now have a low SWR reading, 1.5 or under. If you are 1.5 or under, you are good to go.

If you cannot get the SWR to an appropriate level, there may be an antenna problem.

Check the cable to make sure it is connected to the antenna and the connector that goes on the radio. The center wire of the cable goes into the center of the connector, and the outer wire gets soldered to the outer part of the connector. What type of antenna are you using? Is it a stainless steel 108" whip? If so, then the wire needs to be 17.5 feet long.If it is any other kind of antenna, they come with the wire pre-installed.

fiberglass,no ground plane. Did you use the meters on the radios to match your antennas or a seperate external antenna.you might have to run your own coax and hook up a mirror mount bracket and put your favorite antennas on them then match them and ground them to the chassis use common sense to show you what to do next and you should be getting out great. Sometimes people change the antennas on those trucks with built in antennas and don't realize that the coax has just fallen out of site into the body somewhere. thats why I said install your own.

Installing a echo board into a Realistic 5 pin mic.

95% of realistic mics are 5 pin It would be easier to install it inside the radio.Better than that you buy a noise toy that hooks to the rear of the radio and then your antenna hooks to the toy.

The ratio for reflected power is 1:10, if your radio have 10watt fwd power then 1 swr is ok. its better if you tuned your antenna according to frequency chart which you are using. see the antenna cable for any damage, use low loss cable, also change the mic.

I can only hear the others. When I talk they can't hear and my red anntenna keeps coming on when I push button to talk.

Assuming the antenna is mounted and grounded correctly, when you try to transmit/talk does your meter needle move to the right with your voice,if it doesn't make sure meter knob is set to receive/transmit or mod[modulate] does it move to right now,if not make sure the mic gain knob is turned up or if it is a power mic,is it turned up&have a fresh battery. The antenna light could mean high swr readings which you will have to adjust by tuning the antenna with the radio meter or external meter, you can search swr adjustment on your computer if unfamiliar..some antenna warning lights are factory set too sensitive but most times are telling you there is a problem. If all is set&tuned properly and you still can't get a local signal to respond, your radios transmit finals could be blown, which you'll need a qualified radio tech to determine..Good luck& 73's

You may have a couple issues. First is the whine when you key the mic. Change the mic to any newer 4 pin mic. See if this helps a bit. Also make sure your antenna is a match. Hook up an SWR meter inline and check it. 1-1:5 is the goal but no lower than 2. Your antenna is much of the set up. Spare no cost when purchasing. Do you have one of the older antennas that roll up in the window? I suggest you get at least a Wilson 300 and try that. Window mounted CB antennas do not receive the best at all. And they have no ground plane. You try what I listed and see if that don't help. Let me know if that helps.

When i push the mic button with no antenna hooked up the red light comes.

It is telling you that the cb has an open curcit. This will burn up your radio. To test or check your radio it needs an coax cable and a antenna hooked up to it.

Red ant light

The red light always comes on while mic is keyed. It is designed to do that. It will blink on and off while mic is keyed if there is a SWR problem. This is explaned in operaters manual.

Thoroughly check your antenna connection, be certain the plastic grommet is in place (and not cracked) between the bottom of the antenna adaptor stud and your antenna mount, and check for corrosion in and around your antenna connections. If using a fiberglass antenna, check for cracked outer insulation. If a whip, be sure the Allen screws are tight and the antenna is getting a good connection. If you have a base-loaded whip antenna (Wilson 2000) make sure the base coil plastic case isn't cracked. If you find anything wrong, invest in a new antenna. If all that checks out, buy a new 18 foot piece of coax (around $20, or get the best quality you can afford) and run it to the antenna. You may have skinned the coaxial shielded outer insulation somewhere in the uninstall/install process, it only takes one tiny break to cause problems. Be sure not to run the coax through the door jamb or a window where it WILL be pinched and cause trouble, take time to run it under the dash and out a permanent vent access or through the firewall.
