If you dont want to loose your information you could try a Windows repair by pressing F8 when turning on the computer and selecting repair your computer. If that doesnt work there are ways of repairing the operating system by virus removal. Also on the Acer there is a factory restore partition built in. First you power on the computer and when you see the acer splash screen press alt and F10 at the same time and that should bring you to the factory recovery.

My 531S hangs at the dell splash screen with one short beep before loading windows vista

I would start the computer in safe mode. To do this, keep tapping on the F8 key as you start the computer. Do this as soon as you see anything on the screen. If you get the windows splash screen, you've waited too long. Once you get the white menu on a black screen, choose safe mode and let it start. The next time you do a restart, it should work. If it doesn't, then in safe mode do a system restore back to the time it worked.

Jumpy splash screen

There are a few reasons why? One the video card is going on the mother board. A loose connection that requires professional attention to check or make sure that the cabling is correct, which requires taking the laptop apart where the power button is located near there as well. BIOS could be going bad or need an update. I would start with inspecting the cable going to the monitor first to make sure it is solid. The laptop I assume works great once it is booted up and running. If this is not the case and you still getting periodic splash screen jumping then it would be the video card. This is why it is a great idea to purchase a laptop cooling fan while in use. John

Probably the graphics card. Best way it to test the monitor on another system and another monitor on this system. Might be fluctuations in the signal from the card to the monitor

My Acer 340T powers on and then the screen gets beautiful stripes but nothing else...is this fixable or do I now have a paperweight?

Hi,
It depends really. If you can still see the post/splash screen clearly then the problem will just be bad display drivers.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Acer support website.

Regards.

Acer 22 in monitor

From what you say, I'll assume you see stuff on the monitor like the BIOS info, and the Windows splash screen. Then it goes black.
This happens when Windows loads the video drivers for your video card. Up until that point, you are using generic VGA drivers. I would guess the drivers are corrupt and the video card just stops working when it tries to access them.
You'll need new drivers for your card (you'll need to determine that--you can ask me directly by clicking on my name if you need help there). Then you'll need to start your computer in safe mode and remove the video card from the device manager. Depending on the directions you have for your video card, you may have to tell the computer not to install drivers when you restart your computer, but run the install program first.
