Re: Broken lock switch zune Pink
Here is an Zune Repair Guide that shows how to open the Zune yourself. Hopefully you will find the plastic piece that is missing so you can reattach it to your switch, otherwise it's better to move the switch to permantly unlocked so you can at least use your Zune. You can also solder a bridge over the switch to make it permanently unlocked if the switch is broken (just put a wire that connects all the pins at the bottom of the switch together).
My zune lock switch completely broke off in the locked position. I used a paper clip to remove the small plastic tray under where the switch use to be. It came off pretty easily. Then I could see a small black toggle switch can I was able to flick it in the unlock position.
Followed Bhav91's advice and randomly moved a paper clip under where the switch was supposed to be for about 5 minutes, when the zune woke up auto-magically from it's locked state. I put some scotch tape on top to prevent it from slipping back again. Lets see for how long this works.
The guides in sllano2845 comments are definitely worth checking out. When I opened mine up I found out that that one of the pieces of silver tape shielding tape that's on top of the lock switch had somehow come off. To removed the strip of silver tape that ran from the zune's hard drive to the switch, span it round 180 degrees and stuck it back down. This seems to have improved connectivity. I also used a couple of pieces of insulating tape to make sure it was stuck to the hard drive. Phew! At least I don't have to shell out for a new one just yet.
I don't know what to do if it's completely broke off, but read how I fixed mine. Maybe it will help. There's also someone who fixed theirs by opening it up. I haven't tried it, but the said there's a video on youtube showing how to do it.

The Lock button came right out and the wires attached to it broke, right? If so, y'alls pfft. or, if not... Go to this website and follow Steps 1 thru 4 ONLY. Picture 4 of Step 4 shows the top of the device to the left and the headphone jack nearest you. The Lock button should be right below the top arrow on the left of Picture 4. To unlock it, slide the switch **away** from the headphone jack.
!!! Please note that this is all strictly assumptions on my part. I have *never* taken my 30gig apart and am strictly working from the pics & past experience w/ micro-electronics. Do Not Take My Words As Being Absolutely Correct !!!
I contacted RCA and they said to make sure that the switch on the side is in the unlock position. If that does not work resest it by taking the battery out for one minute. That did not work for mine so she said it was defective. Since I did not have a receipt or an exact date of purchase, they will only refund me $42.55, and I think it only has a one year warranty, after that your on your own. Hope this helps.
The m25 will not power on if LOCK/UNLOCK is in the locked position. If you press the POWER button, a padlock will appear on the LCD to remind you that the unit is locked. Confirm that the LOCK/UNLOCK switch is not in the locked position and press POWER to turn it on. If nothing happens after pressing the POWER button, the battery is probably discharged.
